So the guests we had during the festival -- one of them was Avatar Roku, a.. well, sort of celebrated hero from my world. Maybe - well. It's complicated. But he's still kind of a hero of legend, and I also kind of chickened out while he was here.

.. and I'm not entirely sure why I'm telling the whole castle this, either. [A small puff of irritation.] Just, um. If you have a chance at something here, I guess, don't chicken out and let it get away. I guess. Agh, I'm rambling worse than my brother.

[And, sounding slightly embarrassed, she shuts the journal.]

[ YEEEEEE--

ten minutes later, dro and jet are waiting for her outside the castle, because the forest is a big place and they should go their together. ]

[waterbends]

[And Katara comes thumping down the stairs, tying her hair back as she does. She's all did up in her sparring outfit, too. c: Girl's gonna whoop your butt, Jet.]

Hey, Jet! Hi, Dro.

[jetset]

[ she so is............

he notices the outfit and smirks a little, while dro moves up to butt her gently in hello. ]

Hey. I see you got all dressed up for me.

[waterbends]

Dressed up for the fight-- not you.

[She pats the side of Dro's head with apparent affection, before heading toward the trees.]

C'mon, slowpoke.

[jetset]

Says the girl who's kept me waiting.

[ they amble on after her. ]

[waterbends]

Girls keep boys waiting. That's what we do.

[She's smiling.]

Have you done a lot of training since you got here?

[jetset]

Not sure if you can call it training. I haven't met a lot of people that I can spar with, but I trek through the trees whenever I can, or run through the forest. It's exercise, at least.

[waterbends]

I've met a few people I don't mind sparring with. It's kind of weird, though, trying to match abilities.

[jetset]

You haven't met anyone who can do the things you can?

[waterbends]

Not exactly. I think Zuko's the only other true bender in the castle.

[jetset]

[ ugh... zuko. ]

Do you train with him?

[waterbends]

No.

[It's clipped, exasperated.]

He still can't stand me.

[jetset]

[ man, he can't even make himself pretend to feel bad about that. ]

Right.

[waterbends]

So I guess that means you two haven't kissed and made up yet.

[jetset]

What was a joke?

[waterbends]

Yes.

[jetset]

You know it's never going to happen, right?

[waterbends]

Jet.

[She hates to phrase it like this, but..]

You're back from the dead. Don't you think that anything is possible? That maybe it's time to make some changes?

[jetset]

[ he's not looking at her. ]

The changes I've already made aren't enough?

[waterbends]

Being a good person means that you're always growing and changing, Jet. Not that you've hit a comfortable point and decide 'well, this is it, I'm done.'

[She smiles a little, trying to soften her words.]

Let's just train, okay?

[jetset]

[ he opens his mouth, on the verge of telling her that that's not what he's done; he's completely open to change, just not any change that comes in the form of anything starting with a z and ending with an uko.

but he cuts himself off mid first word, and shrugs. ]

Let's train.

[waterbends]

[And she just, immediately, throws a palmful of water at his face -- she's apparently been carrying it with her the entire time.

It's not a hard slap, nor aimed at his eyes; it's just meant to surprise him as she backpedals.]

[jetset]

[ and surprise him she almost does; it gets him in the face, but he throws up an arm to block some of it. he doesn't step back; he unstraps his swords smoothly and ducks low, swiping at her legs. ]

[waterbends]

[She manages to avoid the swipe just barely, stumbling as she does -- but she laughs, too.]

I really wish we could have done this in the lake.
