The Carnival! (DAY ONE)

[Around 11:00am, the rides and vendors and stands suddenly appear, bustling with sounds and movements as the carnival spins to life. Throughout the day, all kinds of foods, rides, and games are available, but around the carnival signs are posted about a raffle that evening, with the items listed. Wait, did that belong to you? Well now it's up for raffle! Come buy tickets from any of the ghosts with said tickets slung across their shoulders like a sash.]

(ooc: There will be one section for the actual raffle - an ooc post will be up in a couple moments to claim the items- but other than that, go wild!)

What Queen does not? At least, one who takes her position seriously. It's not so glorious as many would have you think.

[ She looks impressed, hushed, before regaining her mischievous smile. ]

Do you have conquistadors at your command?

[commandsthewind]

Conquistadors? No, I am all too English for that. But Privateers? Enough of those to fulfil my ambitions.

[heloise]

Privateers. [ She thinks the word has none of the violence contained in conquistador ] And what lands would you have them conquer for you, Elizabeth?

[commandsthewind]

None. I do not want their lands. [... Their gold, perhaps yes but England was more then enough to manage without more wars. Temperance kept her throne hers.] But there are Kings aplenty that would bring that much death upon their people. I am not one of them. There has been enough blood.

[heloise]

[ Lucrezia hums in thought, with a touch of disappointment. ]

If I had conquistadors I would have them find me mountains with white peaks and endless fields of wildflowers beside a lake as still as a mirror.

[she refrains from the comment that it is not so pretty as that, but she was a fool for the sweet words of Raleigh just as much.]

That sounds beautiful my lady, I hope one day you see such a thing.

[ She takes a bite of cotton candy and smiles to herself, smug. ]

I will.

[Takes another mouthful herself. Really, this was fantastic.]

I long to see the new world myself. To go exploring.

[heloise]

Yet you are the Queen. You can have and do anything you please.

Not so, sadly never so. Many things I want are to never be mine.

[That small and hidden desire to be married with children of her own, to live a uncomplicated life in the country. She'd be happy with such things. But her content only ever came from watching others.]

And why, when you are sovereign?

Because I am sovereign. Surely you must know what politics is like?

[heloise]

I know little of politics.

[commandsthewind]

I know much, but I won't bore you with the details. Sadly ruling requires nothing less then constant vigilance and a sharp mind that can never deviate, surely you have heard your brothers and fathers say the same thing?

[heloise]

When the time calls for them, yes.

[ She picks at her sleeves for a moment. ]

But never at the expense of pleasure. All the power and riches of the world would not be worth such sacrifice.

[commandsthewind]

You truly pleasure is above duty? [Not judging, just... curious.</small.] You cannot have pleasures without work.

Why can they not be one and the same?

I take no pleasure in execution orders, would you? I would hate to know what kind of woman I would be if I did.

[she doesn't mean to be curt, but this mentality people seemed to have of rulers here was... a little frustrating.]

[ Lucrezia thinks she should, as Queen, else why order them in the first place? ]

Queens and Popes have many enemies who might seek their demise.

They do. But not all those are men that truly evil enough to deserve death. [Arundel for one, was a man who simply believed. He was a kind man, who looked to God first.]
