[Morning routines had gone reasonably well, considering there was a first time for... everything. But now it was time to get down to business, and it was important. Kitt picked up the journal, eyeing it dubiously before flipping it open and beginning to speak]

I suppose this thing is working. [He clears his throat] So. Yes. I have a question. Perhaps several.

How, exactly, do you humans cope with sleeping? What a horrifying experience. Absolutely awful. The loss of environmental awareness, the exposure and vulnerability of being offlined - and you do this on a daily basis! Voluntarily, sometimes! And I'm led to believe that some of you might actually enjoy such a thing? I can scarcely believe it. It may be necessary, but that doesn't mean I have to like it.

[A pause, and the sound of pacing]

While I have your attention, can anyone tell me how to get out of here and get back home? Any suggestions would be helpful. This experiment has gone on for long enough, and I'm quite ready to return to my normal form now.

Sure. It's pretty easy to enjoy as long as long as you're not being stupid about it, yknow? Though if you're that worried about it, ya could just get somebody to keep watch for ya when you're sleeping.

That's the problem, isn't it? I never used to need anyone to keep watch for me. I was the one keeping watch. That was my job.

Mm? What were ya before ya came here?

A car. An artificial intelligence housed within a car. Something I much prefer to. [He looked down at himself] This.

Okay, ya got me there. That does sound a lot cooler than being human. Well, except for the part where you'd have people riding in you all day.

There was that. But I mostly didn't mind. My driver was also my best friend.

What's your story?

My story, huh? I used to hunt witches, but I've been out of a job since coming here. Well, at least I got to keep the magic that came with the job.

[knight_2000]

Really? [Cue a surprised look]

I'm afraid I'm out of a job too. Tell me, how does one fall into the job of hunting witches? And how do you know who the witches are?

[prayed]

Ya make make a contract with some kinda alien. Well, they call it a contract, but really that thing just grants your wish and turns ya into a magical girl. It probably sounds like something out a shoujo manga, right? Ya see a lot of idiots running into it thinking that. It's not that sort of fun job, though, y'know, and it's easy to regret it once ya figure that out.

[Should she be saying all this? Ah, it probably doesn't matter in a place like this.]

Finding witches is the easy part. They eat humans, so ya just gotta look for places where lots of people've died or gone missing.

[He really hasn't understood a word, but he's still gamely listening]

Oh. I can't say I've ever met an alien to make a contract with. The 'eating humans' part sounds rather awful.

Maybe. Ya could say they're just getting what they want though, cause the people who get killed by 'em are the ones who already want to die.
