[Spike had busied his mostly quiet days as best he could, waiting for when his dear friends would return from their trip and he could bug them some more. Today he's attempted more training with his little wooden sword. by 'training' this means he's tried to stab a punching bag in the gym and failed more or less consistently.

After his ego has been bruised enough, he opens his journal]

Man, there had to be an easier way to learn how to use a sword. One that isn't all about pain or getting your butt kicked by an inanimate object.

[Though his moral objection to hurting anything probably doesn't help in this matter]

It's only a wooden one, but yeah. I figured I should learn how to defend myself in case the zombies ever come back. [He really shouldn't be allowed to talk to Arya ever]

Swordsmanship takes a great deal of patience and practice. Pain is inevitable, obviously.

[He's watched his best friend practice swordfighting and Shade-killing for 5 years. Even though he's never really picked up a sword himself, that should count as combat experience enough.]

Few things are as easy as they seem. Now, how exactly are you going about this sword training?

A sword is a weapon. Weapons are for battle, you aren't going to get anywhere if you'd rather avoid pain.

I thought the whole idea of learning how to fight was to avoid getting hurt.

And would you be able to do that when you don't know what can cause you hurt in the first place?

[Mufasa was simply exploring Paradisa when he came upon the gym. It's Spike's scent, more than anything, that piques his interest enough to go inside-- just in time to see the little dragon get smacked by the bag. He walks over with a smile, looking down at Spike.]
