You know... it suddenly struck me this afternoon that in exactly one week, I will be a year closer to my three hundredth birthday. Three whole centuries, even if I am not quite there yet. Just over twenty years left to go...  

It also struck me that, being here, I might actually live to see it. 

[And with that wistful little moment, he goes back to sitting in the gardens at a small little table with four chairs, sipping his tea in the evening warmth with some little sweets before him, watching some fireflies dance for the last time before it becomes to cold.]

Oh, I suppose that does make sense. I suppose I only ever truly kept up with mine in any form because it was made into a large celebration. It seems the nobility insist on giving their king a grand party every year, but... it helped lift spirits. And between you and me, I do love a good party.

I do not mind the occasional celebration myself. Some things simply fall to the wayside when one has duties to attend to. Nevertheless, there was always much to appreciate.

Oh yes, certainly there is.

Now, I am a curious creature, so please forgive me, but... what were you duties, as a lion king?

It is no issue. I would often patrol the borders of my lands for danger, as well as watch over my pride. [A chuckle.] Among other things, such as keeping order among the animals. But that would be the gist of it.

_{[Sorry, he is trying to imagine how a lion keeps order amongst the animals, and it is quite amusing, really. As far as he could tell the last time they met, Mufasa would be eating said animals.]}

So, like every other king that ever was.

_{[He laughed, because he did the exact same things, though perhaps not precisely like Mufasa.]}

[Rude. Mufasa is perfectly capable of speaking to herbivores without eating them tyvm. (In fact, herbivores might even feel less threatened by him, given he was the king, and therefore, not a hunter).]

Hm. I am not aware of the customs of kings among humans, or your kind-- Shuranian, was it not?-- but I could not imagine it being too different.

I was responsible for much of what you were - except, not animals. I dealt with the issues of my people, protected the land. Admittedly, I delegated portions out to my nobleman. But I led the soldiers every night.

Soldiers? Were you at war?

Yes, we have been for centuries. My father was head of the soldiers before I, and I took the field once he passed.

That is truly unfortunate.

Perhaps, but I was.... am working to end all of that. I can only hope my plan works.

[But onto a lighter topic.]

I do believe your lessons are helping me generously, Ashura. It is awhile yet before I'll be able to read without the words being dictated, but I am already coming to recognize many letters, and some of the words.

That is very good Mufasa, I have noticed. And do not worry, you will get them eventually. Once you get the hang of the sounds each letter makes, you can work on stringing them together without the dictation and it will come.

Having a handle on the spoken language in advanced certainly helps.

[He gives pause.]

Is there a name for the language that is spoken here? [The one that they all magically and conveniently knew upon arrival.]

We just call it the Common Tongue, I believe.
