You know... it suddenly struck me this afternoon that in exactly one week, I will be a year closer to my three hundredth birthday. Three whole centuries, even if I am not quite there yet. Just over twenty years left to go...  

It also struck me that, being here, I might actually live to see it. 

[And with that wistful little moment, he goes back to sitting in the gardens at a small little table with four chairs, sipping his tea in the evening warmth with some little sweets before him, watching some fireflies dance for the last time before it becomes to cold.]

I cannot properly say. I am normal in my world, well, to an extent, and what people have met here have not seemed so bad. The fact I take a human to my bed should summarize my feelings on it.

But it is not as if you can fault new comers, when so many things here can be so far outside their sphere or experience, and they have no one to lean on.

Humans were disgusting, vile; mating with an elf would surely create some other horrific abomination, the same as a vampire and human mating would create. Different species should not procreate together, was Rosalie's stance. ]

Is that wise with your species, to have sex with a human?

My species will do just fine. Besides, there will be no children begetted from us. My fiance is male after all.

And even my partner was female, that does not change the fact that if we love each other, that is all there needs to be. I am not so foolish as to pass up a happiness I have long been denied.

I see. However, when two different species procreate - such as a mortal with one immortal - problems arise. "Halflings" are not accepted in either society.

[ But it is no longer an issue, regardless. Gender doesn't take precedence over species. ]

I suppose that rather depends on how the two species get on, does it not? Why readily assume the two species dislike each other?

Fear, rivalry, natural instinct; there are many reasons for two species to dislike each other. Humans fear the supernatural, dogs and cats are rivals, and spiders trap their prey in their web.

And yet us beings with higher order thinking skills should be able to overcome such things. If one remains fearful and the other only continues to feed that fear with their own anger - well, both are to blame rather than the one.

You are not wrong. However, I disagree with you. Not everything is as good in practice as it is in theory.

Our kind attempted it, once, to intermix with mortals, and the humans drove us back and forced us into hiding.

And I am sorry for that. I have had no problem with it here, or in my world. My lover finds my... inhuman nature quite fascinating, really.
