[a few days after the Nightmare plot]
[Spike]
[in the middle of the night, a scroll appears in front of his door. Neatly bound by a silver ribbon, sealed with blue wax, and stamped with an ornate 'L,' it's probably pretty obvious who it's from.]
Dear Spike,
Selective truths - or lying by omission - are not e'er representative of what a situation actually entaileth. A truth that I failed to convey to thee earlier doth start thusly: "Hast thou e'er wondered why we continue to interact with ponies?"
We could simply sequester ourselves away into the deepest forests or the highest mountaintops and therefore avoid any sort of contact with them. Moving the heavens is not, as many may be led to believe, dependent 'pon the traditions wherein twenty or more Royal Guards must stand at attention, play instruments, and/or safeguard our lives. We are more than capable of fulfilling our most basic of duties even if we were not princesses, just as ponies are more than capable of ruling themselves should the occasion arise.
We stay because we truly, deeply care for them. We stay because being alone is simply not an option we wish to entertain. We stay because a life lived in fear of the future is no life at all. We stay because the joys outweigh the sorrows, the laughter is greater than the tears. We stay because the good we can accomplish together is much greater than what we can accomplish individually.
We stay because we love them.
Ponies are ever learning, ever forgiving. Thy friend Zecora was regarded with the utmost of suspicion 'till they learned that she meant no harm - and then she was welcomed most heartily. And I am certain thou dost remember one particular Nightmare Night, wherein a mare was also welcomed - one with more stains and sins to her name than any other in recent memory.
It only taketh one pony to reach out with a welcoming hoof, dear Spike. Given the generous nature of our little ponies (and thyself, I must admit), there is absolutely no question that thou wilt e'er be lacking in friends.
Sincerely,
Princess Luna
P.S.
And I can tell thee with no doubt in mine mind that Celestia will ne'er forget or abandon thee. After all, she did raise thee, did she not?
[the lack of any mention of Luna being his friend might be due to the fact that she assumes he won't want anything to do with her]
[/Spike]
[other than that, she's holed up in her room, lying on the floor and staring into a mirror. And aside from writing that letter, she hasn't moved since the end of the nightmare. The door isn't locked, but she's not exactly trying to be outgoing right now.]

At least it's over!
That's the good things about dreams. Not real. Can't do anything but try and scare you.
[He tries to cheer her up, notably.]

Well... I mean. They're over. So... so it doesn't matter anymore.
Things in the past and the like. We can move on. We.... um, we can all just move on. Hopefully
...Twas was one of those?

[she finally glances at him instead of his reflection. Is he trying to make her feel better?]
