Something tells me what we call magic differs greatly between us all, and I admit I'm curious as to what you would call it as such. So what do you call magic? The unexplainable, a power to control and do with as you wish, what?

What kind of question is that? Magic is magic.

Everyone sees it differently, magic to you may be different to myself. Magic is not always magic to others.

How should I know? It's why I asked, though what little I know many think it some act of god or some such thing.

The manipulation of an ambient energy that is often directed toward protection, destruction, or healing. Un-harnessed, the ambient energy does little other than keep the world from dying, unless it grows to be in great concentration; then it becomes hazardous to living beings. Effects often include metabolism alterations - temporary - among humanoids, monsters grow violent, and plant life grows in great size. Plant-life that may fall under both monster and plant is categorized according to its mobility, and way it reacts.

It's a curious question, isn't it? Magic can be said to be so many things by so many different people. To a human with no knowledge of what true magic might be, it might be said that it is no more than the depraved imaginings of dreamers and madmen. And yet to others it might be something as matter of fact as the air you breathe.

What do you think it is, I wonder.

Or the stuff of legends that only the learned know, or care about. [And now he sounds curious.] Something that is my very being, and yet a dark thing. Such a thing that should only be used in the direst circumstances lest it be let out of control, a raging animal almost that may not survive it's use.

An interesting philosophical question. Many in my world would call it ineffable, or not real - but to me it's a force. Like light, or heat, or the wind. It may behave in ways that seem at odds with the 'natural' order of things, but it has it's own order.
