Actually, all arena matches were heavily televised. It was the chief form of entertainment.

That's actually not surprising.

I suppose not. I find American reality television somewhat disconcerting, though.

Karl Marx said religion is the opiate of the people, but really I think it's Cops and The Real World.

I believe I'm inclined to agree. Though one could view such entertainment as a sort of religion - there are rituals and times associated with it, and powerful figures to look up to.

I still enjoy it, though I've been finding film to be more interesting as a storytelling medium.
