Ah. [ HOPES AND DREAMS CRUSHED. Although seriously, he thought it more of a "we're taking you out to an abandoned warehouse for tea and Sherlock discussions" than anything. ]

Too much texting I take it? [ ..............No John, shut up. That was a hideous joke. ] Sorry, that was... terrible.

[He should hear sounds of movement as she strolls to the clinic.]

[ Yeah he hears her and closes the journal. ]

Back here! [ He's chilling in the office with his laptop. ]

[There's a ready smile on her lips when she spots him. She's holding her journal in her left hand while cradling her right. The wrist is swollen several times it's normal size and looks both very tender and painful. It wasn't so much texting as stopping with her hand a violently slammed open door from hitting her face.]

Hello.

Hey... [ He's up the second he sees her wrist, whatever he was writing discarded to the side, forgotten within seconds. Yeah his joke looks ridiculously stupid now. ]

Jesus. What happened?

[Aren't you glad she has a sense of humor?]

I stopped a door.

[ He takes a hold of her wrist gently, guiding her to one of the sets nearby to sit down. ]

Must have been a very violent door then.

[She lets him, being a model patient.]

It was. [She totally won the confrontation.]

[ Best heart breaker. ]

It gave you a thrashing. [ He'll continue his examination, making sure not to hurt her. Doesn't look broken, that's a good sign. ]

I'm sorry, I did not catch his name. I met him shortly after my arrival and he told me of several safe zones here and mentioned the Doctors managed one.

Ah. Well, then, Evelyn, yes. I own one of the safe spaces - which is to say I own both of them, at different fixed points in time, so to speak. The TARDIS.

I'm afraid I don't follow.

Good, I like a woman who thinks for herself. [ahem] The TARDIS, stands for Time and Relative Dimensions in Space. She's an organically grown craft, augmented with technology invented by my people - the people of Gallifrey, who call themselves the Time Lords. In before you call it a bit pompous, I know, but when you invent a way to travel time and space through the clever manipulation of a well-placed black hole, I suppose you've rather got the right, don't you, then. NOW, about the fixed points in time, I suppose I should get to that as well ... Time Lords don't die, at least not right away. We regenerate, which is to say that ... well, imagine a starfish. When it's wounded, it grows new arms, yes? Well, Time Lords, when we get ill or old or injured greatly, we do much the same, only it's not just the arm we regrow, it's our entire self, personality and body, and it's a totally different configuration each time, though we do hold on to our memories. We get thirteen regenerations naturally, and I'm currently on my Fifth, hence "Fifth Doctor", though you're more than welcome to call me Lakare instead if you prefer. Another of myselves is also here, though he's from a much farther point along my personal timeline - he's the Eleventh, and since we each came in our TARDII, well, they're from fixed points in time and thus both the same and yet extremely different all at once. Rather like taking a tree when it's a sapling, then taking it again once it's grown.

I imagine it's a sign I've read far too many science-fiction novels that I do. [The gist of it at least. The starfish analogy broke her brain a little.]

I find those with open minds do a great deal better adjusting to Paradisa... especially those who enjoy flights of imagination, as it were. If you don't mind terribly, how long have you been here?
