rose: play dress-up

[In want of a quiet place to knit, Rose has taken her yarn and her needles into the library this morning, and commandeered a table near the back. She's just finishing up what looks like a tiny, purple sweater, but the recipient of the garment doesn't seem to like it took much.]

Edgar, yarn isn't a digestible material. Please refrain from eating your own clothing.

[A tiny black kitten, who's been rolling around on the table, gently drops the sweater sleeve from his mouth before meowing loudly into the journal and hopping off the table to explore the rest of the library.]

You mustn't be too harsh with him. He has caused no offense. Indeed, I find him quite charming.

[Rose pauses, and stays standing beside the table, smiling just a little.]

So long as he doesn't decide to give you an impromptu haircut.

[She'll return Edgar to Rose anyway, handing him over with a smile of her own.]

If he wishes for a lock, he would do well to ask; he would not be the first.

I'm afraid he would find very little sentimental use for it. He merely seemed to find a morbid amount of thrill in the act of destruction.

He would not be the first of that temperament I have encountered, either. If only all were so small and easily impeded.

... If only. Unfortunately, large and obscenely powerful seems to be the trend.

True enough, in my own world as well as here.

I would be interested to know if size breeds malevolence, or if the two are merely a coincidental correlation.

I am more wont to think it is power, or the desire for it, rather than size, which causes many to fall.

[It takes her a moment to answer. This woman keeps saying things that hit right at home for her.]

[She offers a weak, bland smile. This is nothing to smile about, but she feels that she should offer something.]

I am sorry to hear it. [And she offers a slight smile in return.] But we have strayed into talk of things more dark than I would have liked. Let us cast such thoughts aside for the moment and take joy in what light there is now.

Ah, yes. [She looks a little guilty.] I'm sorry.
