Hey! Uh, I'd put a filter up, but honestly it'd be really super-crazy-broad anyway, and I might as well just tell you all ...

I'm gonna be bringing my PKE meter outside today, and taking some readings of the old, original Dead Zone border from like, five years ago. Zelman was nice enough to give me a really good map of where the edge of everything used to be, and I was hoping I could find some sort of residual energy signature left over from when the borders shifted - kind of like the rings in a tree.

So, if anyone's interested in helping me collect some data, meet me out by the duck pond and we'll get this thing organized! I have one other PKE meter if anyone wants to help me take readings...

[and true to his word, he'll be waiting out by the duck pond in his ghostbusting coveralls, a sheaf of carefully-made copies of Zelman's map tucked in his journal in its harness, one PKE meter hanging from his belt, and the other in his hand. let's solve some mysteries, gang!]

Yeah! Miles and miles and MILES, actually, if this is any indication. It used to only go out partway into the forest - and then people'd get turned around and walk right back out at the place they went in. ... And now we can go all the way out to the Cinderbreach mountains?

[he peers at the map] Roughly I'd say that's a gain of about a 65 mile radius. In five years. If we're talking exponentially ... who knows how much there could eventually be to explore out there? Strictly on a mathematical basis we're looking at an average gain of 13 miles to the radius, per year. That's ...

[he thinks] Well, our current map area is 20,106 square miles ... which is roughly 12,867,840 acres. Add a 13 mile radius to that, and that's 27,171 square miles and ... 17,389,440 acres. That's a gain of over five million acres with a projected one year window of expansion at the current rate.

... That's an awful lotta ground to cover.

It's the area where, if you go far enough out from the castle, magic and technology stop working. But if you push far enough through it, and go far enough out, eventually they start working again. I've got it sorta roughly marked on a map, but only for the path we took out to Libet ... we didn't go far enough out on our trip to Lente's Point.

They can for a little bit - but they don't pick up much, if anything at all, since ... the Dead Zone pretty much cancels out most things that would generate PKE.
