[He can't do one Pendragon without doing the other after all, right? Right. So after some thought he filters to Morgana as well.]

What do you know of a woman named Igraine?

[His task for the Pendragon family, or rather the ones here and he's taken upon himself to meddle with, done, he sets himself up in the lobby on a sofa, a few pieces of wood in hand as he works on carvings for various people.]

I'd ask about how many of you are royalty, but I think I'd very much regret asking, much like I'd regret asking about parties. But I've never been one to value my peace of mind, so tell me, how many of you claim a title of power or importance or similar? [Asking outright probably wouldn't get him very far, but hey it's a start. He likes to keep track of such things after all and Igraine's arrival has made him think about such things.]

[If he's hurt it doesn't show in his voice when he answers.] Such things matter when my queen arrives and another here claims to be my king.

[Ah, loyalty to his own. She could respect that.] Then I will tell you that there are a good number here who posses titles. They mean little to the castle at large, however.

[Indeed, he's just looking out for them and by proxy, anyone they've come to know. A little digging never hurt either, just in case they turned.] Doesn't mean such things are forgotten by them however, rather difficult to ignore a title such as king or lord, isn't it?

[Dryly:] You may be surprised. I will tell you that many seem to have no difficult ignoring the title of "Lady."

[Okay, he's snickering on the inside but on the outside he's just going to sound a little amused.] But you don't forget who you are, do you?

Never. [That answer comes swiftly and firmly.]

[See this is what he likes, conviction. He feels a little bad about annoying her now, just a little.]

Why Lady? [Now that he knows that, he's going to just go and allow his curiosity to run a little. Why just "lady"? Why not queen?]

I fear I do not understand the question. [She's going to make you spell that out, Merlin.]

[That's okay, he just adopts his "Are you dumb?" tone of voice.]

In whatever land you hold your title, is Lady all they know you by? Is that all you hold as a title, or is it just easier then some longer one that you don't wish to tell me?

In Lothlórien, I am "Lady Galadriel," or more simply "the Lady." This is the title by which I am addressed because it is the title my position merits.

I did not inherit my rule and my child will not rule after me; I am no queen. Lord Celeborn and I are merely guardians.

[Hrmm...that's well. Okay he's not sure what to make of that, give him a moment before a thoughtful answer comes out.]

You, a guardian? You surprise me. [Yup, that's thoughtful for him.]

Do I? Why is that, if I may ask?

Your bearing, and that of your lordly friend there. [He means Celeborn.] Much more noble then I'd think mere guardians, you seem more, royal.

My "lordly friend?" [She sounds a little amused.] I assume you refer to my husband. And you are not wrong; we are both of royal blood.

[Hey it's the truth man.] So then why not claim a higher title? Why be a lord and lady, guardians, and not what your blood would allow you to claim?

We have no claim of blood over Lórien.

If we were to speak of our titles by birth, he should be a prince of Doriath and I princess of the Noldor in Valinor. But we do not, nor will we, rule those lands.

[kingsgambit]

[...okay so the question now turns to what happened to cause them to not be able to rule those lands. This is going to be a fun talk, he can tell.]

I can only imagine how sensitive a matter that would be to discuss. Especially with your life, being what it is. [Being immortal, yeah. He's being sensitive, see?]

Moreso for him than for me. Doriath now lies beneath the sea. As for myself- my father sits on the throne still and will continue to do. [And the little matter of her banishment. But she's not going to bring that up.]

[That makes sense. And his respect for her bumps up some.]

You are fortunate that they take you then, as their lord and lady. Not many places would accept such a thing, especially when a parent sits on a throne yet.

It was something of a necessity; many realms lost their rulers in the wars of the Second Age. But yes, we were very blessed to receive as warm a welcome as we did.

[kingsgambit]

Losing a ruler is never easy on a realm; and having you step in put it at ease far better then some turn to when they lose their rulers. [He's speaking from experience here, ugh.] Do you see your father on occasion? [He doesn't know Middle-Earth geography, okay?]

I have not seen in many years. [Centuries. Millenia. Whatever.] The distance between us is quite great.

[Whatever, years are years and years.] I'm sorry to hear that. Must be rather difficult, being away like that.

Duty is what keeps us going, no matter the circumstances. [He can match you with vague answers here. He gets the devotion to duty bit yup.]
