[Arthur]

There's a woman here by the name of Igraine, in my world she's your mother.

[If you have questions, ask them, in other words.]

[He can't do one Pendragon without doing the other after all, right? Right. So after some thought he filters to Morgana as well.]

What do you know of a woman named Igraine?

[His task for the Pendragon family, or rather the ones here and he's taken upon himself to meddle with, done, he sets himself up in the lobby on a sofa, a few pieces of wood in hand as he works on carvings for various people.]

I'd ask about how many of you are royalty, but I think I'd very much regret asking, much like I'd regret asking about parties. But I've never been one to value my peace of mind, so tell me, how many of you claim a title of power or importance or similar? [Asking outright probably wouldn't get him very far, but hey it's a start. He likes to keep track of such things after all and Igraine's arrival has made him think about such things.]

I don't─ [ Her tone becomes stressed, distraught even. I don't want to know her, she wants to say, I don't want to know this dead woman. The kindness in her face, in her tone, in her actions left a wound on Morgana that she fears to touch.

This woman, she has changed things, complicated matters made them worse. They have made her flee to her own room with her own silks, made her nights restless. By all rights she should hate her for it. ]

No other knows, Arthur does not speak of his mother openly and I... I only know because of my sister. In truth I do not think Arthur believes it was magic, all he knows for certain is that she died giving birth to him.

[He knows that one too, as it was why he didn't want to know Igraine, get close to her. She has a way with people, a way far more subtle then Merlin in just her kindness. But it had helped, and he wants that to be available to the others. Igraine will want that and he's rather helpless when it comes to what she wants.

She has complicated things, but it's nothing new. They'll make it through it, just the way they are after all.]

It is understandable. Not many would consider that when, the circumstances...[He can't say it and just sighs.] It will make things difficult, for all of us.

[ She should hate her, she should curse her, she should damn her. She should. Yet she does not think she can, she does not have the energy to hate her, the energy to damn and curse her. ]

Difficult, that is putting it lightly Merlin. This is a trail I do not want to endure.

[She should, and he should hate himself more and he doesn't. He doesn't care and never will and it's easier to just push on and make them all play nice.]

She'll come to you anyway, she'll want to know you. [In other words, she's stuck with it.]

[ She sighs, tired and frustrated. She knows she cannot change this, not unless she does something that would sour her to Merlin for the rest of her days. ]

I know. [ There is defeat in her voice. ] I have met her already.

[And when it comes to Igraine of all people, yes it would sour him. He'll defend her to his grave, even from Morgana.]

So who hasn't met her already that I should speak with before hand? [He stops before going on a rant, sighing.] And what do you think of her?

[ She didn't mean to meet her, she did not seek Igraine out. ]

I do not know, what would you think of a woman who bears the name of a queen long since dead?

[Doesn't mean he can't be any less cranky.]

I imagine similar to the way I feel at seeing a recently dead woman walking about the castle. [...He'll shut up about this eventually.]

[ Then there is nothing but silence as the pieces begin to click, realization creeping up on her like a shadow. ]

It was her. [ She whispers it like a secret. ] It was Igraine you saw, Igraine that died in your arms.

Wasn't it? And do not lie to me Merlin, I know your mind well enough to tell.

[He knew it would happen and yet he can't stop it so he just sighs. He can't keep it a secret, she's told him too much to keep it hidden after all.]

It was, and I still see her. It was my fault she died.

[ Seeing the picture now she isn't sure what she feels, she feels numb and perhaps even hurt (why?), disappointed even.

The person he sees if he is alone for too long is Igraine, the person he cares so deeply about is Igraine. She almost wants to laugh, almost, for a moment she thinks it is funny that she was competing with a dead woman.

Not that she was ever after his heart. ]

I see. [ Finger curl around the pages of her journal, crinkling paper. ]

[Hurt? Oh he could understand that. Disappointed? Not so much, not when she meant so much to him, but he was biased.

But Igraine gave him what Morgana couldn't understand. She grounded him, made him human. Made him remember why he did what he did.

She also reminded him why he tried to distance himself, because mistakes happen when one is blinded by emotions and ones of the heart are far worse then anything his mind could create for him.]

Morgan killed her. [Let's make something clear, shall we?] To use her against myself and Arthur. [And she could guess how she managed that, couldn't she?]

I'm not her. [ She hisses it out in reflex, a long forgotten jerk reaction she hard notices. She is not this Morgan, she will never be that Morgan.

A different Morgan, she could be, Morgan Le Fay like in the stories, but not Morgan Pendragon. ]

I know that. [And he answers back in a calm but nearly frustrated tone. He knows that and it's why he's telling her this.]

Do you see me keeping you away from Igraine? [He trusts you, Morgana, or something close to it.]

[ Inhale, exhale, she breathes as her mind whispers reminders. They both know she isn't that woman, they are two different people. ]

No. [ Though calmer her tone is put out, mind still churning away those bitter thoughts (you lost). ]

Does she know?

[He gets rid of that frustrated tone at least, relaxing even in his place in the lobby.]

No. [And it's a little firmer. He'd rather she didn't learn, not yet.] She's from earlier then that. When Morgan had her captive. [And lured him in, but details...]

She will not hear it from me. [ A promise, in a way, not to tell her of her death. That is something Merlin himself should tell her, or she should find out by experiencing it herself. Either way, it will not be from Morgana's lips. ]

Thank you. [And he finds he means that. He wasn't sure what he was expecting but it wasn't for this to go so easily.]

Do not thank me. [ For the thought had occurred to her briefly, for a moment she thought she should out of spite, for a moment she thought she should deny this dead woman and treat her with nothing but scorn. ]

[He frowns at that, not sure how to take it at first. And then he sort of puts it together and sighs.] No, of course not. Whatever was I thinking?

I do not know, for all my powers I cannot read minds. [ Perhaps she should be sorry that she is not of kinder heart, but she can't. ]

For the best I expect, who knows what you would learn if you could. [No, then he would worry about her. What is kindness for what they do?]

Many would not be pleased if I learned, they are not so fond of others being in their heads. [ It is a slight, though weak and lacking fire. ]
