[Sleeping in a bed that wasn't the one you'd fallen into the night before was always a startling realization upon waking, more so when that bed was surrounded by all sorts of tacky decorations in light of the upcoming holiday. However, what proved to draw Rookie from his sleep was not the sudden change in scenery (though that certainly helped), but the fact that there was someone laying beside him that he was pretty certain wasn't there when he had closed his eyes earlier.
Moving carefully, he pulled the pink satin sheets away from his face in order to sit up and let his attention shift from the variety of Valentine decor, to the woman next to him. When seeing that it was someone he knew, any visible tension he might have had disappeared and was replaced instead by a far more calm exterior. Didn't mean he felt all that calm, considering the circumstances, but the familiar company certainly helped.
Which is why he's just going to go ahead and try to sneak out of bed so he can check out their new surroundings, while half-mumbling to the opened journal once he catches sight of it.]
Hope I'm not the only one witnessing the castle's attempts at romance. [He'll pause to eye the candles in particular, wrinkling his nose.] Especially when it's just giving me a headache.
[Although that apparently turns out to be the least of his worries, because after a few more seconds of movement from his side, Rookie suddenly gives off an irritated sigh. One that was quickly followed by a whispered mumbling involving something about 'annoying castle', 'hearts', and 'boxers' to anyone that was listening hard enough.]

[He just naps when he has nothing else to really do, but he'll move away from the table to join her on the bed with a sigh.]
Guess we could always play cards.
no subject
[She rolls on to her side so she can face him, raising a brow.]
No gambling or bluffing involved. You've got too good of a poker face.
no subject
[Even if his isn't as impressive as some of his other military friends, but all the same.]
no subject
[She scoots over and pats the spot across from her as she sits up.]

[Rookie then nods, reaching over to grab a very convenient deck of cards that was sitting on the table near the bed (Valentine themed as well), before moving to sit in front of her.]
Haven't played this game in a long time.
no subject
[The cards get a glance as she waits for him to get comfortable.]
Me neither, but it's not hard to remember. You any good at shuffling?
no subject
[He'll go ahead and take the cards out of the pack before lifting them up to eye level.]
Unless you wanted to.
no subject
Not my greatest skill by far. Go right ahead.
no subject
[Eyebrow quirk, but Rookie will go ahead and shuffle the deck a few times before he'll start dealing the cards out.]
no subject
[Once the deck is dealt, she takes her pile and shuffles that a little more to be safe.]

I guess we could still talk while playing, huh?
no subject
That's the plan. [Not that he really knows where to start.]
no subject
So go ahead. [Heh.]
no subject
This may end up being a short game if this keeps up.
no subject
[Take! 3.]
Pick a topic.
no subject
[Then a thoughtful pause as he's picking up the cards.]
What sort of topic?
no subject
Are you really that content with not asking me stuff?
no subject
That's not it. [He'll lean back a little now, staring down at his deck.] Just can't think of anything besides favorite flower or color at the moment.
[And that was kind of a pathetic conversation starter. :/]
no subject
I like bold colors. Scarlet or something, I guess. The sort of color that makes you think or feel when you see it, maybe reminding you of something. Red and purples, too.
[Pause.] Don't really have a favorite flower.
no subject
Hint of a smile as he swipes up those cards, though, before he continues.]
Favorite animal?
[Guess he can play the favorite game until a better topic pops up.]
no subject
[6!]
no subject
Don't really have a favorite flower myself. [Slight pause to consider, flipping down three cards.] But I suppose I like the color gray.
no subject
[One, two, three cards face down. One face up-- Queen.]
no subject
[He'll give an amused smile, before flipping down that last card and... 3! Damn it.]
