paradisa | Nineteen Truffula Trees

[The Once-ler would be lying if he hadn't thought about this before. He'd been considering it for a couple of months now, but with Ted's arrival, with a seed of his own (a seed that was GROWING, more importantly) he figured it was time.

It terrified him, of course. It was a big step, and a big risk. If he got this wrong, it could destroy his world's future for good. He'd put the final nail in the coffin he'd been making them with his own foolish actions for the past five years. He couldn't chance another foolish, arrogant risk.

But he was also excited, a small sliver of hope had treacherously sneaked into him. This could be something he could do. It was the promise for...something. Redemption, maybe? The chance to make up for what he'd done back home, here in this Paradisa. Something to finally give him some semblance of inner peace.

And so, he takes a deep, calming breath, before speaking into the journal. Unsure. Unsure of if this would work, unsure if this was ultimately the right thing to do and terrified he'd miss his chance if it WAS]

I have a question. Hypothetical question. Say you come here, to Paradisa, with a thing. Doesn't have to be a specific thing, this is just a hypothetical thing. And when you leave, you leave that hypothetical thing behind. Does that mean that hypothetical thing stays here forever, and this is the super important part does that mean that thing stops existing in your world?

I mean, some of you have left and come back with memories, right? Would anyone know the answer to this question?

...This purely hypothetical question.

Oh yeah, because, you know. This is a magical wishing castle, with no drawbacks to wishing at all. You should wish for that and a pile of diamonds, too.

[Oh, now you get a bit of nervous laughter.]

Heh. Heh heh. I've, uh, already wished for diamonds. When I first got here. I think I still have some.

...Wow really? Well you can just go and buy yourself a jacuzzi or something.

What's a jacuzzi?

It's a really warm pool you can sit in, that has a bunch of bubbles in it. It's super relaxing.

So, it's like a Hot Spring?

Yeah, something like that.

But, aren't there Hot Springs around here? I wouldn't have to buy one of those jacuzzi things then.

[Convenience? What's that?]

But it would be your jacuzzi. You wouldn't have to share it with anyone like you do with the hot springs.

Hmmm. [Okay. You got her interest.] And no one would be able to peep at me, would they?

I think it's all boarded off. I haven't been there. Because...well you know, not good with water and all.

[She's quiet a moment.]

I know, Once-ler. But Hot Springs aren't usually that deep, so you should be all right if you ever decide to go.

[The water would probably come to his chest if he stood up]

I guess you have a point... [Still, the Waterfall Incident is far fresher in his mind right now. Effing water]

[Poor guy. The Hot Springs back home only went neck-high, and that was when they were sitting down.]

Yeah, but you don't have to push yourself, Once-ler. Just do it when you feel like it. [Or, he'll never be able to get over that fear.]

Trust me, pushing myself is one thing I don't plan on doing.

Be careful, though. You know people who have no problems pushing others.

Oh. Someone's pushed you into the pool?

[Oh, what an innocent-sounding voice she has there.]

Not so much pushed as errr...accidentally flung.

[That sound you hear is her slapping her hand across her mouth to keep from laughing. What escapes is somewhat of a muffled "erf" as she imagines someone flinging him anywhere.
