I have news. I may have done something which is--I'm only just now realising how big a thing it was, actually. But, it's done and it's happening and I'm both ecstatic and somewhat terrified by the prospect.

Fred has consented to move in with me. I asked her last night and she said yes.

Lana, I hope that as my landlord you're comfortable with the idea of Fred being a second occupant of the town residence. We haven't even discussed sharing rent or anything of that nature. But if the lease needs to be renegotiated, please let me know.

I've never lived with anyone else before. Are there things I ought to be aware of? Is there meant to be some sort of protocol for how things are done?

I know about the toilet seat needing to be left down. But what else?

[There may be the slightest hint of panic in his voice now that the reality of it all is sinking in. Co-habitation. What if he mucks it up? He'd appreciate any advice they can give on the subject.]

Wesley's entry pings his interest. Working at a magic shop would present him the perfect opportunity to keep track of any potentially powerful magical items, and maybe learn more about the magic that's keeping them here.]

Ah, hello! My name's Alvin Draper and I'm interested in the position. I worked at a local video game store home and sold a bunch of stuff there. It's not exactly magic, but, uh, some of the games included magic themed stuff in them. I've got the rest covered!

[Oh, look, it's his first applicant.]

Mr. Draper, thank you for your notification of interest. So you have some retail experience, at least? That's a plus. Most of the items in the shop are not particularly dangerous nor requiring special care. Those that are, of course, are kept locked away in the restricted area in the back. I would be able to offer you on the job training and while the starting pay is somewhat modest, I believe it's more than fair and open to renegotiation pending performance reviews.

May I ask how long you worked for the video game store you mentioned? You're originally from Earth, I take it? Not that that's an issue, per se, but it can certainly help in terms of terminology regarding our merchandise and its origins.

I worked at the gaming store for a year and a half, sir. Part time on the weekends because I was attending high-school, I could only work a limited number of hours. I received job training there for about three weekends. That was enough to get me going. I'm going to guess I'll need more than three weekends of training for this, but I catch on quick!

And I'm originally from Earth, Gotham City in New Jersey to be exact.

[He doesn't recall any such city in New Jersey, but then again, he's not that familiar with every town in the U.S. of A.]

Mhm, it's kind of a crazy place. A few years ago it got hit by a huge Earthquake, thankfully it's been rebuilt.

[Odd. In every Earth that he knows of, Gotham is usually recognizable because of Wayne Enterprises. Then again, he doesn't know all fifty-two Earths. Maybe Wesley comes from one where Gotham's just an average city without anything remarkable one way or another in it.]

Nice to meet you, Mr. Wyndam-Pryce. All I have is free time right now, so I'm free to meet whenever you are.

[ Wow, she just wants to race over and hug him to death, but maybe that wouldn't be good. So excited she's almost mad that he thought she might have a problem with it. ]

Why don't we worry about the paperwork later, when you're positive this is going to be a solid thing.

You shouldn't looking at this as 'living with a girl'. You're living with Fred, and you know her. Better than anyone else does, really, so it's hard to give you standard advice. But I think that not leaving any hair in the sink should be a standard plus for all women.

[Don't frighten him with talk about things possibly not being that solid, Lana. But he'll push down those jitters for the moment and focus on her other remarks.]

...Wesley, you need to just calm down and relish the moment. This is an amazing chance. You get to have what you've always wanted.

[ Because Lana is the opposite of blind when seeing others in love. Especially a Wesley, who she watches like a hawk. ]

I know, I know. That's what's so terrifying in some ways. Lord knows the Castle does it best to rip away any happiness we might collectively seek.

But, this feels right, you know? We shouldn't let foreknowledge of what the future will bring to dictate how we live in the present.

I would agree with that, of course, but what do you mean, exactly? What about the future?

Fred and I found out from people further along on our timelines that we both die. Fred only a few weeks from when she was taken. And I am killed only month or two after that.

So...essentially, there's not much incentive to return back to our time. We've already lived longer than we ought to have done. But at least this way, we get to be together for much longer than ever happened back home.

We always knew that, due to our line of work, we might never get the happy ending, the long life and peaceful passing, with children and grandchildren in the offing.

Whatever time we do get is an absolute blessing.

I still can't believe it's actually happening.

I would be pleased to have the opportunity to work with you again as well. Willow bequeathed the shop to me and I had a friend helping with running it, but unfortunately she was sent home recently.

If Willow was involved, that makes it even better! I'll be sure to come by once I'm back.
