[Dictated - Broken Filter to Fred]

Do I need to find new and exciting ways to entice you away from that lab in order for you to eat something? I'm not above putting on that Lornette outfit, you know.

The Magic Shop is seeking two part-time staff to help with running the store. Retail experience and a passing familiarity (either theoretical or practical) with Earth magic is preferred, but not necessary. If you are professionally-minded, hardworking, reasonably personable and are interested in a position: please contact me for further information and to set up an interview.

[Private to Elektra and Lana Lang]

I have news. I may have done something which is--I'm only just now realising how big a thing it was, actually. But, it's done and it's happening and I'm both ecstatic and somewhat terrified by the prospect.

Fred has consented to move in with me. I asked her last night and she said yes.

Lana, I hope that as my landlord you're comfortable with the idea of Fred being a second occupant of the town residence. We haven't even discussed sharing rent or anything of that nature. But if the lease needs to be renegotiated, please let me know.

I've never lived with anyone else before. Are there things I ought to be aware of? Is there meant to be some sort of protocol for how things are done?

I know about the toilet seat needing to be left down. But what else?

[There may be the slightest hint of panic in his voice now that the reality of it all is sinking in. Co-habitation. What if he mucks it up? He'd appreciate any advice they can give on the subject.]

Did either of you get a letter to dress Elektra this morning? Or am I the victim some sort of ridiculous prank, of which one of you is likely to be the culprit?

[By now, Wes has seen Fred's nameplate and noted that it's backwards now. It doesn't bode well, but at least it's likely that she hasn't been sent home. He's not ready to contemplate her being gone for good. Perhaps he never will be.

The frantic search for her has turned up no leads so far. And she's not the only one who seems to have disappeared.

Wes sits down at his desk with his journal, runs a hand over his face and then finally starts to pen a message to the other residents. He has to do something, no matter how small. Otherwise, he might just lose his mind with worry.]

I'd like to keep a collated list of names of those people who are confirmed currently missing, with their namesplates turned backwards, as if being mirrored. If you have a friend or loved one who qualifies, let me know and I will update their name here. It would be useful to know how widespread this is. Please also include last known sighting/whereabouts/activities just in case there is some kind of pattern we can identify.

With the current attacks at Cair Paradisa, I'm offering up the Caritas bar in town as an emergency shelter for anyone who requires somewhere to stay until the threat is taken care of. The former proprietor Lorne always took people in during times of crisis and I see no reason this tradition should not continue. We've got dozens of cots, extra bedding and blankets, rations and other supplies available. I am also looking for volunteers to help with logistics.

((ooc: So late to the party, many apologies, but Caritas has always been a go-to place in times of evac, hence the public announcement. XD))

[Wesley is outside by the pond, throwing bread at the ducks in the water. It's an idle activity which would have been frowned upon if he'd been back at home. He's enjoying just sitting, watching the birds squabbling over the crumbs he tosses at them. His journal is open on his lap.]

I've read about how people are stranded here and want to return home to their family and friends. I'm supposed to be going away soon. I don't understand why others are stuck and can't go, even if they desperately wish to, whereas I'm not, apparently. Or, at least, not for long.

But what if I don't want to go home and would prefer to stay here? Is there a way to ask the Castle if that would be all right?

[Have a boy sitting quietly in the lobby, looking solemn and a little overwhelmed. He has his journal open on his lap. Mostly he's just watching people bustling by with the wide-eyed wonder of someone who's most assuredly lost and is momentarily uncertain as to how to proceed.

The journal is strange. It reminds him of some of the things father has locked away in his study. Maybe it can tell him what to do.]

Hello?

[It’s late morning at Wes’ residence. There’s the rustle of pages and sheets. A shift of weight and then the book is slammed shut, but unbeknownst to Wes, his rolling over to face Fred has knocked his journal open again...]

Something’s happened at the castle again. It’s all over the journals.

[The words settle over Fred, but she doesn’t immediately move. She’s found that spot. That rare, rumored, and more than a bit difficult to find spot. She’d been more than content, and fully prepared to stay there for the better part of the morning. In fact, she’d only just started to consider forgiving Wesley for moving. She’s remained curled up in the echo of that place, the quiet sound of pages being turned occasionally breaking the silence]

Like something, something? The sort of something I need to start finding my clothes for?

Dinosaurs running amok, escaped ghosts, upside down and topsy turvy staircases, corridors melting away, giant bubbles in the washroom, the library an absolute mess, involuntary pink hair...to name a few.

[Dinosaurs. Fred remembered the dinosaurs right after she arrived. She’d nearly gotten stepped on. She sighs into her pillow]

So definitely something then.

[Oddly, her voice remains uncommitted. And muffled]

Yes. I’m afraid so.

[Wes gives a faint sigh, then there’s the barely audible sound of a shoulder being kissed.]

We could always just stay at the house. Plead ignorance?

[There’s still a good bit of morning sleep in her voice, and what follows is dangerously close to a purr. It trails off into another sigh, and then another body shifting in sheets as she finally turns to face Wesley]

….it’s probably nothing like anything we’ve seen before. Especially since you missed the dinosaurs.

[So why didn’t she sound convinced?]

I suppose we ought to, then...

[He doesn’t sound very enthused. After all, the bed is warm, he has Fred’s company, the prospect of yet another chaotic day in Paradisa - after what’s happened earlier in the month - doesn’t really appeal. But he reluctantly starts to make a move.]

[She hadn’t expected him to actually move, somehow. Honestly, she’d just been talking to -- talk. Mostly saying the words she likely was expected to say]

Wesley....wait.

[Fred shifts closer, drawing herself up against him. What distinctly sounds like a kiss follows]

...I only just got rid of that peach dress.

[That of course implying she’d had her personal fill of the Castle’s brand of crazy lately]

Mmm, I was hoping you’d say that...

[More kissing sounds and movement on the bed until--]

[This message is not sent until the morning of the 15th]

[Filtered to all friends excluding Fred, Cordelia and Harmony.]

Fred, Harmony and Cordelia appear to be experiencing a temporary loss. Approach with extreme caution. They are currently possessing magical powers and may wish to-- err, sleep with anyone who is male and deemed worthy of their attention.

I'm stuck in the kitchen right now, but perhaps there's some way we can corral them somewhere?

As of today, I will have been in Paradisa for an entire year. It hardly seems possible that much time has passed and yet, in other ways, it feels like I've been here for longer.

I've been looking back at my entries in my retired journal, going over the recorded interactions of the past and I can safely say that this place has definitely changed me. I'd like to claim that it's been for the better, although that may be debatable depending on whom you speak to.

[There's a trace of ironic amusement in his tone.]

Nevertheless, I choose to view this day - this milestone - as something to be celebrated. You'll get no bemoaning of my lot from me. In this particular moment, I'm perfectly content. I may not have everything I want, but I believe I have all that I need.
