Skit 7: Holidays

You all have so many holidays. I've never heard of them before coming here. Which one is your favorite?

I've never decorated a paper lantern before. I hope I'm here long enough to be involved.

There's another lantern festival, though I don't know if most people here celebrate it.

[There's a small pause as he stops think about the date, and the lunar phases]

Two weeks from tomorrow, actually.

Don't people celebrate all their holidays here?

Well, each person can celebrate their personal holidays in their own way if they choose, but it seems like the Castle and it's residents as a whole only turn out for some of them - mostly the Western ones.

Why only the Western ones?

[legacydeck]

More people here are familiar with them, I suppose.

[protosshaze]

So most people are from the west?

[legacydeck]

As it would be called on Earth, yes.

[protosshaze]

I'm not from Earth.

[legacydeck]

Ah - many here are, myself included. 'The West' generally refers to both a geographical area and a certain shared culture among the countries and peoples of that area, which includes various holidays.

It must be a big place.

[legacydeck]

It is. Two billion people and counting.

[protosshaze]

Why do they all live in the west?

[legacydeck]

They don't - just a majority of the ones who've come to the Castle.

[protosshaze]

But why?

[legacydeck]

That I cannot say. You'd have to ask the castle, and I don't think it's fond of questions.

What does it do?

[legacydeck]

Gave me the distinct feeling that if I dug deeper, I'd be borrowing more trouble than I could pay for.

It asks for money?

[legacydeck]

Ah, no - it's a metaphor. The castle would cause more trouble than I would know how to deal with.

[protosshaze]

People say that a lot. But it's alive, so it makes mistakes like people.

[legacydeck]

You might be right. I'm not sure I'd want to get caught in one of it's mistakes, though.
