But not before all involved have been wounded, I imagine. Is that not the castle's greatest desire? To whittle away at our souls until we are less than nothing, with nothing to believe in and nobody to love?

That's still up for debate. [As in, nobody likes to talk about it. He gets that feeling either way.] Although I haven't heard anyone come to that conclusion as fast before.

Much has happened.

I've always thought that the castle had favorites.

[ Anne wouldn't be surprised to be deemed a 'favorite'. She has after all claimed rule over it. Perhaps it really is punishing her, but she doesn't want to be beaten. She just doesn't know where to start this time. And she had so much of everything else planned, too. ]

It is not the castle. All the castle does is take the truth and drain any light from it, to pretend at holding a mirror up to your soul and then claiming it is God's work.

It is not an enemy any man would know how to fight, let alone a woman.

[It's hard not to sympathize. He's more of a pessimist than most, but he also considers himself one of the favorites.]

You should never underestimate a woman with a grudge.

It ought to be torn apart, brick by brick. Why has this not been done before? Must I think of everything first, as you say, or have I simply not been told of past failures?

Death is only the end of a pilgrimage, and those who have accepted Jesus Christ as their lord and savior will have nothing to fear from what comes after.

For any man who treats death as a shadow, it will do naught but follow him. If he were to treat it as a friend, then it would walk at his side willingly.

What about someone who lost sight of it.
