THE EVENT HORIZON - DAY TWO

[Something during the night has activated the ship's gravity core. There seems to be no evidence as to what caused it. Everything within the ship remains stable, but the ship itself shakes violently, and deep in the bowels, a ominous rumbling sound can be heard]

[She jumps at his voice, turning slowly to face him. The look in his eyes puts her on edge.]

And why is that?

[It should you put on edge, Kate. It really, really should. Even moreso given that he's just casually blocking the tunnel and not making any movement towards her or the core.

As far as he's concerned, he's got her cornered. Also, please ignore the blood that happens to be staining his flightsuit and jacket, and those burns on his neck. Nothing to see here.]

You do not wish to find out just what it will do if you remain here for too long.

[She takes a step toward him, daring him to advance and open up the tunnel.]

Really? It looks like you may have an idea of what might happen. Care to enlighten me?

[He doesn't move an inch even when he steps towards her. He's not interested in your little games, Kate. Of course, that question makes him narrow his eyes and start, y'know, rambling again.]

A descent into madness. Torment. Pain. All that awaits for all of you here is suffering. Suffering far beyond what you can imagination. Neverending torture the instant they get your hands on you and none of you can escape it if you remain here.

[He may crack a wry smile.]

But there is but one salvation.

[She takes another step toward him, her hand moving slowly to her gun.]

A revelation, huh? I suppose you're going to tell me about it?

[And then? He's immediately drawing his gun and aiming it at her. You got about oooone second to dodge before he pulls the trigger, Kate.]

[Kate darts behind the Core, ready to return fire when he decides to shoot.]

What happened to telling me about it?

[The second she moved was when he pulled the trigger, causing him to frown when he missed her entirely. He quickly turns and fires at the same time, but that shot was too early and harmlessly hits the wall behind Kate. He'll turn in Kate's direction fully again, gun aimed at the Core- though he'll of course be waiting for her to come out.]

And just prolong your suffering?

This is the only way to save you.

[She peeks from around the Core to return fire, pulling off two shots in his direction before she jumped back under cover.]

If this is how to save me, don't worry about it.

[Oh goddamnit she has a gun too. Here we go with that whole 'gunfight' thing again! Geez.

He ducks when he spots her aiming and does a short roll to the side, but he quickly springs up and returns the favor with two shots of his own. He keeps his gun aimed in the direction and keeping close to the tunnel entrance- he does NOT want her to escape. Tailing your prey can only be amusing for so long.]

You're as stupid as the rest. They will hunt you down until they find you.

Death is the only way for you to escape that terrible fate.

They'll hunt me down? And just what do you call what you're doing, having a picnic?

[She fires another shot, trying to draw him away from the entrance so that maybe she'll have a shot at getting out of here.]

[He does not appreciate your sass, Kate (not in this state anyway). As he went to move back to his original position, that bullet will hit his left shoulder, causing him to stagger back slightly. First a scalpel digs into it, now that shoulder has a gunshot would. That shoulder is NOT catching any breaks.

He quickly raises his right arm again and fires another shot, ignoring that horrible pain tearing through his body. Three gunshot wounds and a stab wound does that to you- all forms of previous torture aside.]

I'm doing you a favor. Why the hell don't any of you see that?!

We're completely unreasonable.

[When she sees him stagger back, she fires off three more shots as she makes a run for the tunnel.]

Idiot! You're all a bunch of idiots!

[Wait she's shooting again- he feels one of the bullets graze his leg while the other two somehow miraculously missed him, but the graze got another stumble out of him.

But was she making her way for the tunnel? Oh HELL no.

Rather than waste time in aiming and shooting at her at such close range, he quickly stumble after her into the tunnel and reach to grab her. Get back here, you wily creature!]

[She dodges his hand and hits the railing of the tunnel, and it knocks her breath away. She staggers another few steps, still trying to avoid him.]

[When he missed her and grabbed nothing but air, he stumbled foward, barely catching himself from falling over by grabbing onto the railing. He lets out a ragged breath before looking up at Kate with sheer fury. He was so sick to death of the games everyone was playing with him. Why wouldn't they just shut up and die?!

Despite the sudden action causing even more burning pain to shoot through his body, he makes a dash forward and attempting to grab her again with his left hand, while his right arm was raised above his head in an attempt to pistol whip her if that failed.]

[She sees him coming and braces her feet as best she can. When he gets near her, she ducks below his right hand and grabs his left forearm and pulls him forward. She throws her good shoulder into his gut, then pushes up, throwing him over her shoulder, and incidentally, over the tunnel railing.]

[His gun clattered carelessly to the floor and slid under the parallel railing while his eyes suddenly flashed with surprise, widening as he was pulled forward. She may actually hear an audible groan of pain this time as he coughed up blood; a whole new wave of pain struck him as her shoulder made contact with his gut and quite effectively knocked the wind out of him.

That action disoriented him so badly that he hadn't even realized that she was throwing him over her shoulder immediately, only just barely coming to the realization at the very last second; his hands shot out and grabbed onto the banister, catching himself by the absolute skin of his teeth.

There's probably no better time to make a break for it than while he's dangling above those rotating knives, Kate.]

[She stands there, stunned, for a few moments, just watching over the railing as he struggled to maintain his grasp. She struggles with helping him, and actually takes a step toward him. However, the memory of his gun pointed at her finally prevails, and she turns, staggering away as fast as she can.]

[Shitshitshitshiiiit---actually if there wasn't so much pain blinding him and keeping his mind well occupied, he'd be mentally cursing her right now. He could hear her footsteps fading as she fled the premesis, but he had to concentrate more on making sure he doesn't die a very painful death. With the pain his shoulder was in, it felt like someone was about to tear his arm from its very socket.

Eventually he manages to gather the strength to pull himself back up slowly, but not without nearly losing his grip a few times. When he finally pulls himself over the railing, he drops back onto the stable surface with his body utterly screaming in pain. He slowly dragged his body to his gun and grabbed onto it, glaring up in the direction Kate had gone. By then, of course, there was no chance of him catching up to her.

And yet another one successfully managed to escape the sights of Solo Wing.]
