COMBINED CAMP: DAY THREE

[The morning ends the heavy storm, bright sunshine beaming down on the makeshift camp. Some of you may be injured from last nights incidents, but at least this is some downtime for you to recuperate. Tembo and Harding are arguing heatedly some distance from the camp, but otherwise the jungle is silent.

The camp is being visited, however. A pack of compsognathus have made their way into camp. They're little guys only ten inches high, easily the smallest residents on the island. They're currently scurrying around the camp, looking for any food to scavenge, seemingly not concerned with the people milling around]

Starving. [he's eaten weirder things than dinosaurs]

[She nodded, aiming at one of the little pods of dinosaurs.] How many? One or two?

Just one. No need for it to go to waste if it doesn't agree with me.

[She nodded, rested the gun in her hands, keeping her balance as she aimed and coolly shot two of the little lizard bastards. Sending the rest of them scattering.]

There, breakfast.

[not that he's surprised she's such a good shot] When did you upgrade to a gun, anyway?

[She flicked on the safety, pushing the gun back in the holster, and then pushed herself to her feet. She gave August a wry smile.] When I couldn't find a bow and quiver.

You're a good shot, but... I'm sort of hoping you go back to the bow. It suits you better.

[She blinked at him, before she felt a faint flush to her cheeks.] Thanks ... anyways, I prefer the bow anyways. It's a ... cleaner weapon.

[she pulled her knife, so she could start skinning the creatures.] Think you could start a fire?

[he's been building a fire anyway. The right kind, with rocks surrounding it so the fire doesn't spread. They've had enough trouble without starting a forest fire. He gives her a smile and sparks up a fire]

I've learned a few things being on my own.

[She nods her head, quietly impressed, before she gathers some sturdy sticks, and starts to skin the little dinosaurs. The she sets up the spits over the fire he started.]

Not when to take cover ... but your firemaking skills are duly noted. [And she smiled back.]

[he can't help it: he smiles back at her]

I said I learn things. I didn't say the lessons stuck.

[She snorted out a quiet laugh.]

I'll remember that the next time we get chased by giant man-eating lizards. 'Katniss, remember to drag August to safety. The don't get eaten rule didn't stick.'

[he grins at her. She's so easy to talk to and joke around with, even with as intense as she can be at times]

My leg's been feeling better. Hopefully you won't have to actually drag me.

Good, because you're much taller than me. It would have made things awkward if I had to throw you over my shoulder like a sack of flour.

[she sat up, nodding to his leg, her gaze curious and concerned.] I couldn't find anything wrong with it when I looked ... do you have deep muscle pain there?

To be honest, I'm not sure. I had this, ah... skin condition back home. I thought being here cured it, but the pain I'm feeling is the exact same that I used to feel before. Doesn't make any sense.

Well, maybe it's the weather here. Or maybe you're allergic to dinosaurs. Sure seems to be a lot of them here. [She tilted her head at him, her lips pressed together briefly.] Either way ... are you going to be okay?

Don't worry about me. As long as Emma and Henry get out of this okay, I'll be fine.

Listen, Emma seems like a nice ... woman and I care about Henry, but I care about you to. So. [She pointed a finger at him, her eyes serious.] Don't go dying on me, Booth.

Katniss... [he doesn't have the heart to tell her he's already dead] As long as you don't die on me either.

[You could, August. It's not like she hasn't had friends here that she knew were dead back home. Like Cinna, or Rue ...] I'll do my best. [She doesn't tell him that she's in jail, waiting to be executed.]

[She sits up, and turns the meat, to make sure it's cooked on both sides.]

[She really is everyone's little sister ... little murderous sister, but still. She does understand about lying.]

[She gave him a lazy little salute, before sighing and looking around.] Well, at least we're not alone when we're on these things.

Lucky us. I spent enough of my life being alone.

[She gave him a wry smile.] Good to know I've found people I can trust.
