THE RIVER
[YOU CHOSE THE RIVER ROUTE Too bad, Mama decides to give this group chase. There's a cave up ahead, a small waterfall partially concealing the entrance, but it should provide safe cover, if you can make it]

He circles around and back to Dairine.]
Think he has a grudge?

Not sure. I don't know him. [Joshua, that is.]

trolling the T-Rex hey. She keeps hiding but she might wave if anyone catches her eye. ]no subject
But he'll still take a note and end it fast, honestly bearing no grudge against the poor stupid beast. They fought, he took her eye and frankly she's left him a little worse for wear, but now she's the one outmatched, and that probably becomes clear the moment the violet-hued blast encompasses the behemoth's entirety. The force of it will definitely send up a spray of water and dirt (well, mud), but once that settles the scene is completely still. The T-Rex that was flailing and roaring around only moments ago stands poised perfectly still in the center of the river, every inch of it greyed and hard as if it were nothing more than a statue. At such a precarious position, she ought to fall over, but there's no movement at all, and there never will be.
Joshua, meanwhile, will have landed on the side of the river close to the cave, wings gone but horns still visible, just staring up at her.
At least nobody will have to worry about scavengers. ]

Lucrezia interrupts the silence that comes after with the sound of her ruffling skirt and the patter of soft shoes against the wet rocks as she steps out of the cave toward him. Joshua still seems taken by his own handiwork, but no matter, she can still wrap her arms loosely about his waist and join him in paying the dragon its due respect.
A worthy enemy is hard to find. ]

Which Dairine guesses means she failed another life, even if it was one that she wasn't very fond of. And she didn't even get the catharsis of pounding it. Dairine's mind is a jumble of feelings: anger, disappointment, guilt, sorrow, self-doubt. Why is she so conflicted? It should have died... or shouldn't it have? Who is she to say how it should live on its own grounds? The Powers discouraged making such assumptions... or valuing one life over another. So, somewhat bitterly, she addresses Joshua.]
You didn't have to do that. We could have handled it.

It was our fight. Had nothing to do with you by now.

You still didn't have to kill her!

[ Joshua hadn't even known it was female, but he wasn't exactly looking for that while running for his life all night in the dark. ]
And if she wasn't taken out of the picture, she just would have kept trying to kill us, and nobody would have been able to sleep tonight.

She gazes up at the T-Rex, her anger simmering down.]
Is it permanent?

She may still be smiling, but her expression is cold, angry. How dare she? ]
There is another for you to manage if you are so keen.
