...from the make of this place, I'd say this is Elf sorcery...

[To appease his curiosity, Thorin opens the book and finds not only his name, but the words he spoke not seconds ago written inside.]

[He tilts a brow and observes his surroundings - seems to be a lobby of some sort. Dwarves don't typically live in castles, so he knows this is not the work of his kind - and his kind would never demand the sacrifice that this castle did.]

[He's unaccustomed to having things just appear by wishing for them.]

Is there some incantation or magical rite that must be performed? Or does one simply think their desire?

Nope, no special mojo from what I can tell. Just concentrate on what you want and it appears, as long as the castle is in a good mood, I'm sure.

How can I trust that the castle wouldn't poison the drink that I wished for?

I can only speak from personal experience, it hasn't done that to me - but in general, don't ever trust the castle. The free food and drink thing seems to be pretty harmless from what I can tell, though. We all pay enough in other ways.

All the same, I think I shall wait on the ale until I get a better feel for this place.

And what do you mean, 'pay in other ways'?

And yeah, when you arrive here, most everyone seems to have something important taken from them from what I've heard from the others. I... I haven't personally figured out what it was for me, yet, but I'm sure it's going to be... incredibly annoying.
