[Dictated - Open to Katniss or Anne] [Baby!Plot]
[The journal falls open, and a faint burn marks show on the edges of the page. There are sounds - sounds like crashing and slamming, and yes. Cursing. A great deal of cursing that suddenly became words.]
Come - back ... down here you damned bird! No, stop! Stop! Not the curtains! Don't set fire to the curtains! Sit! Stay! ARGH!
[Then there is the sound where she turns and yells across the room.] ANNE! Get out here and help me! You have got to help me! This thing is setting fire to everything!
[There was another crash, and Katniss sighs as a few more burn spots appear on the page.]
...I hate this castle...

...I hate this castle...
Re: voice; Katniss
Where are you? I can be there in a moment.
[ And he would bring his son. That might help. Or it might make things worse. It was a gamble. ]
Re: voice; Katniss
Re: voice; Katniss
I will be there in a moment.
[ He doesn't say it with much urgency, but it is not long before there is a knock on the door and Ashura on the other side. A naga (half-snake, half human) is wrapped around his shoulders and peering over the back of his head with its little human face. ]
Katniss? Anne?
Re: voice; Katniss
...Baby?
action;
[ Ashura smiled and nodded, reaching up to lay his fine fingers on the red and black scales that wrapped about his shoulders. ]
Indeed, mine and Felix's.
[ He took in her rather disheveled state and felt a smattering of pity. He reached out, placing his hands on the bucket she wielded. ]
Why don't I come in and see what I can do?
Re: action;
[She closed the door behind him, and pointed to the rafters.] It stopped setting things on fire. For now.
[But her tone was clear that she wanted to strangle the damned thing.]
action;
The beast isn't as much of a shock as it should be, recalling the past expedition, but she still visibly tenses, her own cheeks and hair spattered with ash, and the edges of her skirt singed from when she had put out the fire on the curtains. And to counter all that, half of her is also dripping wet. It's been a...day. ]
I pray you forgive such a scene we have made, but can you destroy it?
[ Maybe her maternal instinct is reserved for humans. ]
Re: action;
No, I cannot destroy it. The Castle will not let you harm the children.
[ No, indeed, it got very cross if you tried.
He looked to Katniss. ]
It is newly born, then? Have you tried wishing up food for it? It is probably hungry. I would try some type of meat first.
[ He looked at the creature again, considering. It was possible that it ate something entirely mundane like meat, and equally possible it ate something rather unusual. Either way, he might try and gather the girls time to do that.
He concentrated and a bit of fire bloomed in front of the creature, flickering back and forth like a dancing fairy. The naga on his shoulder shrieked in a giggle and clapped chubby hands. ]
Re: action;
Sort of busy. Trying to keep it from burning down the entire damned room.
[She sighed and wished up some raw meat, putting it down on the floor for the beast.]
Re: action;
There's relief in her expression when the phoenix lowers to the ground to check out the food, but it is a newborn. The food probably needs to be ground up. ]
Can you not use magic to keep its fire from harming us?
Re: action;
Alas, no. I do have control of fire, but only the fire that I summon. Anyone else's I can do nothing about, though I can tolerate heat quite well. And that would mean I would need to be here quite often to monitor him.
[ Which he would not do given that he had his own child to deal with, whom he was currently bobbing a bit of flame for and making him giggle. ]
I do not think the Castle would send children that are totally out of control. My little one seems to use fire when he is upset or very, very excited.
Re: action;
[The door knocked, and she went to answer it. She came back a minute later, with Giovanni in tow, and oven mitts on.] All right, let's see if touching with help it.
action;
Damned bird. ]
What is known to calm excited animals, then? Not the same that would calm humans.
Re: action;
[ He shrugged his shoulders, but paused when his own child let out a sound of distress at the motion, and he cupped his side to keep him up, the little tail writhing as it reasserted its grip. ]
It is a creature, but a child too. Keep that in mind, I am sure you will do just fine.
Re: action;
Come here, baby ... come to Katniss.
Re: action;
Singing, at least, is something that she can do well. She gives Katniss the chance to lure the bird down with her soft words. Clasping her hands together beneath her chin almost as if saying a prayer, Anne makes sure she herself doesn't freeze up from her own fear before trying to incant an old lullaby she would often sing to Elizabeth; it's a romantic tale in French, one that ends in tragedy. But that's just par for the course with those songs, isn't it? ]
Re: action;
Impressed? Yes. Well done, 'Mother'.] It seems calmer now. I think it likes your voice.
Re: action;
He did shift to consider the room though, wanting to make sure no little stray bits of fire had been left untended. He was sure they would have noticed, but you could never be to careful, and turning his back gave them a little more privacy. His own child, Arias, raised himself up though and turned to keep watching with big curious eyes, hissing and burbling softly in curiosity. ]
Now now, Arias, do not be rude. They are bonding.
