Oh, I get it. Dumbo Number One [She points to Conan] has no sense of self preservation. So Dumbo Number Two [pointing at Dairine] went completely ballistic.

[Conan was beginning to get annoyed at all the digs at his sense of self preservation.]

She is completely overreacting. And I can take care of myself. I didn't die, did I?

Hey! Who're you calling a Dumbo?! [Dairine was also annoyed, but more at the implication that she was like Conan somehow. There was no way she was that annoying (or so she thought).]

[The younger wizard gives Conan an extremely stony stare.]

Don't pull that on us. You nearly did die, and it wasn't your gadgets or brains that got you out of it.

"Didn't die" is a pretty low standard, Conan. [Which is mildly hypocritical coming from Nita. But hey.]

But Dair can't just live on your floor forever either.

[He crosses his hands behind his head and scowls at the pair of them.]

It is a practical standard, considering the situation.

[He glares a little more at Dairine for that dig. Conan did not appreciate being reminded that he'd spent the entire situation as the one in need of rescue. It offended his pride as a detective.]

I could have figured out something.

"Practical"... Hmm, that doesn't seem right. More like "pessimistic."

[Dairine glances over at Nita.]

You say that like I want to live on his floor forever. Have you spent 24 hours with this guy? It's nothing but "oi oi, whine complain, Sherlock is the best, leave me alone." No gratitude at all. But as a wizard, it's my job to protect Life, and that includes you, buster.

[At which point she goes back to glaring at Conan.]

You rarely ask for anything. That doesn't mean you don't need one.

[A long suffering sigh and a glance back at Conan.]

She's right, Conan. It is our job to protect Life, like it or not. And I'm guessing that since she's being so insistent on this, she's decided that you two are friends but is being too dumb to say so.

So can't you just save us all a few headaches and be more careful? Come to us for Wizardly backup or think of a plan before running straight into trouble?

[Conan crosses his arms.]

We're not friends. And she can go protect life somewhere else. I don't believe in all this magic stuff in the first place.

[Dairine stares at him silently from across the room, eyes narrowed. Whether it's because of the denial of magic or their friendship is hard to say. Then suddenly an invisible force pushes Conan from the back, aiming to shove him onto the floor.

Across the room, Dairine turns her gaze up at the ceiling innocently. Who could have done that? Surely not her, right??]

Having a clumsy spell, Conan?

Ugh! You two are going to drive me nuts!

That's it. I've had it.

[Conan, I hope you are prepared for your collection of Sherlock books to disappear out of your room- at least temporarily.]

You can either play scavenger hunt for your books or you can promise to rein it in a little and ask for help.

Dair, is that gonna be enough to get you off of his floor or am I going to have to start making things difficult for you to?

[Conan sputters in outrage. Even he wasn't sure which sister was more the cause of it. A moment of internal debate settles that. It was definitely the one that touched his book collection. With magic.

He huffs angrily at the pair of them and refuses to give an answer.]

[Conan's outrage would normally amuse Dairine... but she had more important worries on her mind. The moment Nita turns her attention to her after vanishing the books Dair grimaces, stands up, and grabs her sleeping bag, shoving it into what looks like thin air. No way is she chancing getting on Nita's bad side after what happened to her bed.

That doesn't make her any happier about it though.]

[Well, Conan. Nita is just going to look at you expectantly until she gets an answer.]

[He crosses his arms. ]

I'm not going to ask for help.

[Dairine exchanges looks with Neets at Conan's words. 'You see what I've had to deal with?,' she says silently. Then she leans over and whispers to Conan.]

Just do it. Believe me, it cost you a lot less trouble if you do.

Is it seriously such a big deal to ask for help when you know that someone could help you?

It is when I don't need help.

Big words for a kid who can't cook. [Dairine mutters just loud enough for everyone to hear.]

[Well, that's distracting enough to get Nita off her tirade.] Like at all? [To Conan:] You can make a sandwich, right?

[Wait, how had this turned into a discussion of his cooking skills?]

I'm three feet tall. I can't reach the counter without a stool.

[He puts out the excuse with a glare at Dairine. Was it really necessary to bring this up? ]

[Dairine glares back at him. Yes, it was absolutely necessary. How has he survived so long?]

Funny how being three feet tall doesn't stop you from doing anything else.

When wasn't it? [After all, it was his stubbornness that led Dairine to take drastic actions in the first place.]
