Syntax Error 06

[Out of all the spooky things happening today, there is one thing that really bothers Dairine. So her voice has a slight edge to it when she addresses the journal.]

So… it snuffed out the sun. Or at least effectively did. This certainly puts the castle at a new low.

Well, let’s hope it’s temporary. Having the sun go out is not an experience I personally wanted to repeat. Too bad we can’t go off planet and check on it. [Mutter mutter grumble]

Anyway, if anyone needs it, I have a light set up.

[Dairine is heading towards the lobby and ballroom, with a small glowing bluish light floating next to her. She might not look it, but she’s on high alert, just in case the castle decides to stop playing around. Approach with caution.]

They snuffed out the sun? Is that why it's so dark? Why did they do that?

[Dairine looks over her shoulder in a totally calm and collected manner WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT. …Oh. A kid? Has she been lost in the dark?

She turns to face Vivi, scratching the back of her neck idly. How to explain…]

Seems like it. Because some people can be pretty mean, including the castle.

Action (I absolutely love Dair! The Wizardry books were my favorite ever!)

[She's going to come as close to Dairine and the light as she can and pester her with all of her questions. What else are clever looking older girls for?] Has the sun been snuffed out before? Can it be relit? Like a candle? That doesn't sound right... my papa said that the sun is really huge.

I don’t know about this sun, but my sun back home has. Don't worry though. It came back an hour or two later. [Though it sustained some complications--yeah, don't mention that.]

It is. I've seen the sun up close and let me tell you, it is gigantic. I know only of one Person who can snuff out a sun. Well, two now.

Oh, that wasn’t me. It was my sister's assignment. From what I remember, she got rid of the One Who snuffed it out, and the sun came back.

[Dairine frowns.] Yeah, that definitely sounds familiar. I know SomeOne who would do that sort of thing. Probably has.

[Will is in the lobby already, seated next to a ball of light burning with a bright clear flame. He gazes into it thoughtfully.]

[Dairine walks into the lobby, with her pinpoint of light slightly ahead of her. Occasionally it dims and flickers, despite Dairine’s routine adjustments to the spell.]

[Will stands up and cups his own dim light in his hands as he calls out to her.]

[Dairine looks over towards the voice--and the light.]

Yeah? [Oh wait. That's right, she knows this voice.] Hi, Will.

It is good to see you are well. [He comes to a halt, still guarding his small ball of light.]

You too. It’s been awhile. [The last time they had seen each other in person had been... thetimewiththefairies nevermind NOT THINKING ABOUT THAT.

Dairine steers off that train of thought before she gets embarrassed again.]

Holding up OK? [The question is mostly conversational. He seems to be doing fine, but looks can be deceiving.]

A few times, but only once with my sun.

And other stars. The sun is just a close star after all.

Is it? In my own world, there was a time before the sun. Indeed, it is a time within my memory. But the stars, it is said, were the sight that met the Elves upon their awakening.

Does Dairine need to teach Galadriel about astronomy too?

Not all stars are born at the same time. My star--well, Earth's star, Sol, is fairly young. So once there was a time with no sun, just other stars. [Not that there was an Earth around that time.] Doesn't make it any less of a star.

Elves have been around a long time in your world, haven't they?

...Maybe. Tolkien stars are special, okay? One is literally a guy in a ship with a shiny jewel
