Well, Japan ain't really like this no more. But way back when, there were samurai at the top of things. They were pretty much nobles and warriors. The real powerful ones were lords, and the rest swore to serve one of the lords--except sometimes for reasons they ended up without a lord to serve. So this is about some of those guys, an' a town of farmers that were being attacked by bandits.

[It's pretty simplified, really, but Kanji doesn't want to try to go into more detail because he's not sure he hasn't gotten something wrong already. History is way far from his strong suit.]
