[After the thump, it is the first thing recorded into the journal. It's responded by a sharp meow and a hiss, followed by another thump.]

I do not want you on my bedside table eith- put that down! Howie, that is not edible. Brainy Smurf is... [Meeeeeowwwwwhisssss and a gasp from Brennan. Preserving Brainy Smurf (however much she will not admit how much the small toy's presence means to her) is worth a couple of scratches.

By now she's noticed the journal on the floor and has bent down to pick it up. There are a few seconds of silence.]

[To the cat:] I don't know why you've started acting like this. You were... surprisingly agreeable to co-habitat with until recently. [When Brennan started spending more and more time in the Peace Patrol laboratory again.]

As reluctant as I am to ask for it, I know there are a number of pet owners here in the Castle. I... admit, I could use... some assistance at the moment.

I believe I understand. You are referring to a talent possessed by individuals such as Ceasar Millan to communicate with canines in a way many others cannot.

We worked with him once.

You really did? What was that about?

A murder Booth and I were investigating. There was a connection to a local dog-fighting operation. Mr. Millan was called in to assist with the animals and to help us find evidence needed.

That's horrible. I'm not animal crazy or anything, but how low can you get when it comes to hurting animals?

Unfortunately, pitting animals against each other is a common pastime in cultures where violence is emphasized and animal life is disregarded. Especially among men.

Did you catch the perp?

Yes.

[It's a bit of a steeled response, because even though they did succeed in catching all perpetrators, Ripley the dog still had to be put down.

She clears her throat and continues.]

My... coworkers have a very high success rate when it comes to closing cases sent to us.

Makes me glad to hear. People don't give law enforcement enough credit anywhere.

Still, it's good that people stick to jobs like that, even in this place. Then again, you don't strike me as the slacker type at all.

I have never been very good with the concept of vacation.

A little break is good at times. Maybe not a week vacation, but a Saturday night spent doing something fun.

I like to spend my Saturday nights catching up on recent journal publications.

Yes. In lieu of access to these articles, I've been browsing the library instead.

Okay, one of these evenings, we're going to have a drink and enjoy whatever band is playing in the bar.

[She chuckles a little at that. It sounds a lot like something Angela would have said.]

I have not visited one of the bars here in quite some time.

I usually go to the ones in the City instead. They don't get free money like us.
