[Waking up to the stark lights of a clinic is never a totally pleasant experience, and after spending precisely a year aboard a meteor in the time since she last recalls seeing Paradisa, it takes Rose several minutes to fully realize her surroundings. In fact, once she finally comes around, it occurs to her that maybe she never left at all. The meteor might have been some elaborate dream, induced by a bump on the head.

But if that were the case, she would not still be in her god tier garb.

The situation becoming completely clear to her, Rose reaches for the journal. She has no idea how long she's been out, and finding that out is the first matter of business.]

... Brushing aside the film cliche of this inquiry - would someone mind telling me what the date is?

[Rose looks about as pleased as Ray has probably ever seen her. Real human food? Hell to the yes, please. She daintily digs in.]

I have spent far too long in space, I believe. I'd nearly forgotten what "fresh food" entailed.

In space? [his eyes go wide with wonder] Wow, what were you doing all the way out there?!

Not space as we on Earth know it, but I suppose it's the most comparable term. As for my business there, I'm afraid it's a bit of an impossibly long story.

[The sandwich is gone in no time flat, and, after examining a chip for excess grease, she bites into that too.]

You're familiar with mine and John's charming troll friends?

Oh, yeah. I'm good friends with Aradia and Nepeta, and I know Vriska, too, I just haven't talked to her in a while. And I talked to another one, when she first got here, but just that once. ... I can't remember what she said her name was, but she wrote in green and she was really polite.

[a pause] Kinda reminded me a little of you, actually.

Kanaya. [She smiles just a little at his comparison.] Yes, I'm quite familiar with her.

Oh, okay. So ... did you and John go to visit them or something, on Alternia?

[guess who still doesn't quite know the whole deal with Sburb]

[Rose realizes all at once how little Ray knows, and goes quiet. She sits there in silence for a moment, focusing on a spot out the window.]

I'm afraid it's a bit less transient of an arrangement, at least for the moment.

[She turns to face him.]
