[Waking up to the stark lights of a clinic is never a totally pleasant experience, and after spending precisely a year aboard a meteor in the time since she last recalls seeing Paradisa, it takes Rose several minutes to fully realize her surroundings. In fact, once she finally comes around, it occurs to her that maybe she never left at all. The meteor might have been some elaborate dream, induced by a bump on the head.

But if that were the case, she would not still be in her god tier garb.

The situation becoming completely clear to her, Rose reaches for the journal. She has no idea how long she's been out, and finding that out is the first matter of business.]

... Brushing aside the film cliche of this inquiry - would someone mind telling me what the date is?

[She looks back at him, not speaking for a few moments. What does she even say? "What happened? Oh, several people died many times, and we still didn't win the game." No.]

We managed to scratch the game.

[ That probably won't make him feel great. He'll realize it one day, but not for another three years or so.

He doesn't like the way she's making this all sound though. ]

Did it fix everything?

[Jeez John, stop being so painful to disappoint.]

Not yet. But it did work.

[ He just wants everyone to be able to go home, and to be able to see his dad again :( ]

So that's why you haven't seen me in a year! Wow... but we're on our way to sorting it out at least, right? Or at least you are, even if I am doing something else for some reason.

[Wow, brackets, stop making me want to cry.]

We all are, albeit a bit... separately.

Separately?

[ Staring at her intently. He's waiting to heeeeaaar. ]

... An unfortunate temporary arrangement.

[She turns, and stares right back.]

We're all unharmed, though, relatively. That's what matters.

I hope that relatively just means how you guys had to all die for a little bit to become god tier and nothing else. I am glad we'll be meeting up again soon though.

[ Soon is more relative than John understands. ]

[She tries her best not to visible sadden at that. What she had meant was that they were alright physically. Emotionally? Not in the best shape. But she remembers then that John still doesn't know about his dad here.]

Yes, that was my attempted meaning. I wasn't sure it was something you would care to hear about.

[ Poor Rose, awkwardly having to talk to her friend who hasn't been home in over a year and knows none of what's going down. ]

I definitely care to hear about that kind of stuff! It's kind of a big deal.

... I suppose it is.

[Rose's frown smoothes out a bit at that. John, why are you such an awesome friend?]

Anyhow, you know the drill. If you've seen one ascension, you've quite nearly seen four.

I didn't really see one though, I just sort of woke up and it had happened.

... An enviable method, I'm sure.

I didn't even know it was happening at the time! I kind of got tricked into it. Not that I really mind, but...

Well, if I ever have the grand and improbable opportunity to repeat my ascension, I will remember that as a recommendation. It certainly seems preferable to the sepulchral anticipation of seeing precisely what's coming.

You knew you were going to die first?

... With utter certainty.

[ Woah... ]

But you knew you were going to reach god tier after too, right?

Once the possibility became present, yes.

That's... good, I think?

[... She can't bring herself to tell him about the Green Sun. About the mission, or the moon, or how she was going to die anyway. Instead she just gives a pained little smile.]

Yes, it was certainly fortuitous.

[ Yeah, he's not really getting a good feeling about any of this. There are things that Rose isn't telling him, but he's not sure if he's supposed to ask or not. She probably doesn't want to tell him about it. Maybe if he holds onto this all for later? ]

And at least it's all mostly over now? We just have to meet up with each other in the future.

That is the current plan. Once we reach our destination, we'll be able to meet up with you and Jade.

[Minus a few steps here and there. Rose doesn't feel right at all about leaving out so much, but the fact remains that she cares very much about John, and she isn't sure what he knows or how prepared he is to learn some of these things.]

[ John likes to think he's prepared! But then again, he's been kept in the dark for almost two years now about his dad's death, so blissfully oblivious seems to basically be what John is all about right now. ]

Then pretty soon we'll get it all fixed, and then we can... I don't know, win the game, I guess.

I certainly hope that that's the case.

[She gives a kind, calm smile. Blissfully oblivious is the best way for him to be right now.]
