[a great wind kicks up in the lobby this morning, stirring the curtains and any of the dirt tracked in by daily traffic. there's a familiar whooshing, vworping sound, and the TARDIS materializes squarely in the center of the lobby, just as though someone MEANT to land it there, with a dull, echoing thud.

the door creaks open, and Five strides out, far too occupied in the business of talking over his shoulder and unrolling his hat to notice where he is]

[he stops, and looks around finally]

Oh, dear. Best stay in for now, Peri, until I find out where we've --

[he pokes his head back into the TARDIS, a bit surprised at the lack of whinging coming from within] Peri?

[with a great heave of a sigh, he closes the TARDIS door and leans on the exterior] ... It's always the new ones, isn't it.

Psychically linked, I would surmise, judging by the way it's picking up what I say, though there's obviously a fair bit more to it than that. Very fascinating. I'm afraid we haven't come up with that answer yet, Doctor. However, we do know that these are the second incarnations of these types of journals. I own a copy of the first incarnation, and I believe several other older residents do as well.

The first incarnation doesn't record written and spoken words any longer, but it's a valuable source of information all the same.

Well, thank Rassilon my previous incarnations don't stick around like that, or I'd be in a terrible pickle and a far-too-crowded TARDIS. ... Though, what exactly do you mean by older residents? ... You say that as though no one here is native to the territory.

Most of us aren't. We come from other worlds and time periods Some of us stay for years, while others only a few months or even days.

I am originally from England in the year 1998, for example. [she knows that he above all people will understand different times and worlds]

Not a bad time, 1998 in England. Could do a lot worse.
