[The celebration continues in Paradisa. With so much going on, it's easy to catch the excitement high spirits that seems to be spreading among the townspeople--and even the residents.

In the courtyard, the same bright, inviting lights remain.

The two figures from before have left, replaced by two more. They stand poised, almost as if they are waiting to be approached. Will you?

Just past the gates, there seem to be an endless row of crates filled with various fireworks of all shapes and sizes. It seems Paradisa may be hinting at something.]

Fine, I suppose you don't get a story. I'm sure others around here would be happier to hear what good she did and how love prevailed and all that stuff. I thought you humans ate that sap up heartily.

Since you want to talk to me that much, I'm at your service. Is this going to be about the giant she killed?

[Groan. That's not what she meant and you know it. Being elf is suffering.]

She was famous throughout the queen's capital and the realms beyond for felling giants with that mighty blade of hers, often one-handed. That's admirable for any race, especially for one as young as she is.

And she did this by herself? [skepticism abounds]

For a while, but as any legend goes, she fell in with a man with the title of Dragon Slayer and they eventually fell in love and had a family after settling down from their quest. There was a good span of time they fought together though and were known as a famous battle couple.

So what, are their kids giant dragon slayers?

Their only son is a bit too young for that, but he's taking after his mother's new profession; she retired from fighting a while to be a renowned blacksmith in a small mountain town called Vosk.

[Let her not speak of the dwarves hanging around there.]

Though I wouldn't be surprised if he takes after his parents someday. That's some strong blood running through him. She really did the humans a lot of good protecting them. And she's humble, to boot. It doesn't get much more storybook than that.

She was in the tournament to become queen when I was in it a bit before I first arrived here. She's as kind as the humans say. Her whole reason for joining was to reunite her son with his missing father.

[It's only been since she came here does she really understand that level of losing someone. Her vocie goes surprisingly somber.]

I...hope she succeeded.

[and she gets serious. And by that, I mean she smiles.]

Don't worry your little elf head. As strong as she looks, she probably did fine.

I mean, look at her! She's more battering ram-esque than Aveline ever was!

I'm fine, feh. It just hurts to lose someone that close to you. And with the queen being who she was then, I would bet even she had issue taking her down. Cheating, spoiled brat.

[Not that she's bitter she rigged her against Echidna or anything]

Is this the crazy tournament thing?

Yeah, the current queen has to be bested or she gets to keep her position. Combine this with the fact that the only solid rule or law in place for the competition is an age limit and you could see how troublesome this could be.

Sounds like any government to me. You're just more overt about the fighting.

It could use a massive overhauling. The problem is getting someone on the throne worth half a damn.

[Maybe Gainos should have a subversive newspaper with bad political cartoons in it too]

That's a problem anywhere. At least you aren't like the Antivans. The nobles there traditionally hire assassins to do their dirty work.

I don't know, the queen had her own assassin squad instead of royal guards. I used to....know an ex-captain of theirs. They're quite full of themselves.

[Not going to say she dated her]

And just get rid of the competition that way?

Pretty much; whatever it takes to ensure she keeps the throne. Acting like the child she is. I'm just glad someone knocked her down finally. Brat had it coming.

She must've been pretty strong to get there in the first place.
