Two Spoons {Dictated}

[There's a frustrated little sigh, and then the clatter of baking tins. Then silence.]

I don't understand why this is so difficult. I've been trying to bake a cake all morning. I've been trying, and-

[A shuddery little breath.]

And I - can't - remember!

This is ridiculous. It's a cake, for Landsakes! I've made cakes all my life, this should not be hard! And if that weren't enough, I can't seem to...I - I can't seem to...

[This is a little embarrassing for her to admit.]

I try looking at cake recipes and once I look away...I forget the steps entirely.

...I'm going to try again.

[OOC: Jane's stumbled upon her loss, but she's still a bit too stubborn to admit it to herself. She's in the kitchen, covered in flour and somewhat distraught if you'd like some one-on-one interaction, but if not feel free to respond.]

Over two years, actually! But it's not as long as some others!

Gosh, there are people who have been here longer than that?

Isn't that a bit frightening, though? To stay here so long and never see home?

[ A beat. ]

I've seen home! Sort of...

But I have a lot of friends here, so I don't feel scared or lonely. [ Too much? At least, they help keep her distracted. ]

[Oh, right - she HAD heard of people going back home for periods of time.]

It doesn't seem like it's fair, though. You only stay home if you're lucky.

It's good to have friends in these types of situations.

I don't mind it here! I've been able to see things I'd never see back home.

Like what sorts of things?

Magic, for one!

[There's a pause there, and then-]

Really? Magic? What here could possibly be magical?

It's a magical castle...

There's proof of it being magical?

[A beat.]

I mean, I've seen the ghosts, and the journals, and people come here with no notice, but...

I just think it's hard for me to accept this whole place is magical even if it's staring me in the face.

But you can wish for anything! And everything repairs itself if it's broken! Plus the seasons room that becomes a beach on certain days!

[There's a pause.]

...What's the seasons room?

It's this magical room that changes seasons on different days! One day it's summer and another it'll be winter. And it doesn't look like a room on the inside...!

[She's making little confusion sounds. Jane is torn between proclaiming that this sounds really amazing and questioning how that can exist. This goes on for a little while until she proclaims,]

...I...definitely need to see this for myself.

It sounds amazing, right? [ And she sounds excited. Magic is all sorts of wonderful to Uru, who's never seen magic like this back home. ]

[Jane's not one to believe in something right off the bat, so she's really kind of torn at the moment.]

It...certainly does!

Like I said, I'd have to see it myself...
