[Just as before, today finds two new figures standing in the courtyard. They are great figures of the past for some residents. Perhaps their stories can be shared?

In the city, people are talking rather excitedly about an event to take place in the evening. They say a great fireworks display is scheduled, and they can't wait to catch a glimpse of it. It's said to be an extraordinary show.

Will you pay patronage to the elders? Will you grab a seat for the show?]

I didn't mean anything by it, Bucky. [Steve points to the sky.] Are you here for that?

You could say I am, yeah. [Not the way Steve's thinking, but...]

Kind of makes you miss the ones back home on my birthday, doesn't it?

[blue_sniper]

A bit, yeah. These are much bigger, but they're nothing like the ones in Brooklyn. [He has a lot of good memories of Steve's birthday.]

[Steve smiles.] Think they'll have them on the 4th here? I got to admit I'm looking forward to it. It's not Brooklyn but, we've got a decent company to join us this year.

[blue_sniper]

Who knows? It's probably all up to the Castle, and who knows what it'll do. Though... [He grins.] You're right, we do have a lot more people to join us this year. We'll throw a party of something.

[valuedstrength]

Bucky you know how I feel about parties. [He doesn't feel comfortable and stands in a corner.]

I guess I could make an exception for this if it was small one.

[blue_sniper]

[To be honest, that would be best. He doesn't like large crowds anymore.] A small party it is, then. It's not like people will ignore you, though. [He knows way too many people here, now.]

I never thought they would since we'll be controlling the guest list. [One would assume his friends would talk to him on his birthday.]

[blue_sniper]

...Good point. [He laughs.] I just realized that we would be able to control who comes. We've never actually thrown a party like that before, have we?

[valuedstrength]

Nope. People just sort of showed up. [Probably has something to do with the fact they're orphans for the majority of their friendship... or at least one of them was. Way to specify movieverse.]

[blue_sniper]

[Bucky's been an orphan most of his life. Thanks movieverse for making us compare headcanon.] Since we didn't even know anybody except the gals I used to date and the people they brought. I'm pretty sure you were my only true friend.

[valuedstrength]

Quality over quantity, right? [He's referring to things on his end too. It went without saying Bucky was his one real friend before the castle.]

[blue_sniper]

[He laughs.] Completely. I'm pretty sure you're the best friend a guy like me could ask for. Even if you don't know when to give up sometimes.

[valuedstrength]

What can I say, Bucky? I don't have any quit in me.

[blue_sniper]

What other guy would try to enlist six times to the army, and actually succeed? Nobody else. They would have given up.

[valuedstrength]

I hate to say I told you so... [But he was right about getting in.]

[blue_sniper]

You needed a serum to do it. [So the point the still stands.] But if you hadn't gotten in, I probably wouldn't be talking to you right now.

You think so?

[blue_sniper]

If you hadn't gotten into the army and taken the serum, who would have rescued me from the factory?

[valuedstrength]

You're right. It's almost like fate.

[blue_sniper]

Some sort of crazy fate. I never would have thought, that night at the Expo, that our lives would turn out like they have. [That night seems so far away for him. It was the last time his life was something approaching normal.]

[valuedstrength]

Can't say I did either. I wanted to go and I wasn't going to give up but, never thought things would get this crazy.

[Upgraded body? Fight people more evil than Nazis? What even...]

[blue_sniper]

Just think about how I feel about all this. You signed up for the project. I had no idea about any of this. You could have at least sent me a letter and gave me a clue or something. But no, I find out the hard way. Thanks for that, Steve. [He's actually teasing him. Though it would been nice to have some idea before the whole factory incident.]

I didn't know where to send the letter to. [A beat.] And you would have talked me out of it.
