It's been more than long enough, and I've installed a precation or two on Maine's armor in case things go wrong. I'm giving him the armor back as he has proven to my satisfaction that we aren't dealing with the Meta.

Armor lock being ready to activate on command doesn't hurt either. The Brute Shot stays on lockdown though. Come to me if you feel you need the codes and we can talk. And if you know any outsiders that should have this, let me know. Not spreading this widely, as I'd prefer preventing abuse.

Maine, stop by my rooms when you are ready.

Agent Maine is getting his armor returned, with certain safeguards in place. It's been long enough, he has proven to my satisfaction that the Meta has officially left the castle.

Any objections, I'll hear them out, but I doubt they'll change a thing.

It is armor. Protective equipment. I will not be returning his weaponry. He shouldn't be kept vulnerable for things that the Meta did.

I could probably even install more failsafes on that armor if I thought it'd help. But I doubt it will. Castle at large already probably thinks I'm a horrible monster over this. Maybe they're right.

And the best of this? Maine is now getting blamed for something I did without asking him. And this is after all the time he's spent trying to be good. He's been letting himself be locked up 12 hours out of each day so York can feel comfortable.

[And in some of that, there's a bit of slurring. As clear as he is... He's still drunk.]

[and when that slurring comes through, Five murmurs, incredulous, but with a tone that says this explains so much]

My word. You're stone drunk, aren't you....!

... Not really. May have misjudged the quantity it'd take to get what I wanted though.

And no, I didn't make this decision drunk. First drink was after the reason I'm still sane declared me the most horrible being in the universe and decided he wants nothing to do with me anymore.

Carolina is going to kill me...

Well, if you fish for sympathy like that, I'm afraid you'll find it in short shrift here. While I don't envy the decision you've had to make, you did make it, and it's yours to live with.

If there's anything I can do to help resolve all of this, please do let me know, but forgive me if I think it's not the grandest idea to do planning in an altered state of mind.

Yes, it is. And the best thing I can really do is stick to my instincts and make this work. Make it work or die trying. I owe Maine that much after fucking things up like this. York isn't the only one thinking running sounds like a plan now.

... Carolina would agree on that thought though. She said she's checking to see if I'm sober enough to deal with the situation when Maine gets let out of his lockup again. If she thinks I'm drunk, the armor isn't going anywhere.

If Carolina's watching you, though, I suppose I shan't have to worry too much. ... And I really do hope you don't die trying, we have enough of that around here without.

As much as I don't want her watching, she still thinks I'm part of her team.

Good on both counts, I should think. Sometimes it's not necessarily as bad a thing as one would presume, being part of a team.
