[This... was not where he expected to be. That's apparent by the look on his face, which is both confused and cautious. He reaches for something at his side, only to find it missing and a strange book tucked into his hakama-himo where it should have been.

This appears to anger him slightly. He looks suspiciously at his surroundings and whispers to no one in particular.]

...Has he managed to fool us once again?

[Finding no answer or immediate danger in his surroundings, he flips open the book, looking for clues.]

You say the castle itself is responsible for this? Or is there someone who controls the castle's actions?

The castle is responsible, yeah. No one else is in charge or the reason behind why we're here.

It's a sentient being, the castle.

[a small chuckle, but quickly he is serious again.]

How is it that this book can allow us to speak to each other?

[there's a warmth in her tone.]

Simply put: magic. The book is a means of contacting other residents in the castle and you can write in it as well.

Well, yeah. They are 'residents' of the castle. But not all of them are people, just to let you know.

[Some of the officers in the 12th division didn't seem much like 'people' either, so he wasn't so concerned about that so much as other things.]

That's quite all right. One can't help who they are, I suppose. Unless of course, you mean to say that some are dangerous in some way?

Mhm, some are dangerous, yes. What I meant by that was there are dragons here. Also elves, vampires...and talking ponies.
