 I've been talking to a lot of people from other worlds.  It's really interesting, isn't it?   All the different worlds and times people here are from. 

But I've started to get a little curious about something.  

Has anyone here ever heard of a Digital World?

There isn't a sun there either. But you can see the Real World in the sky. That's where all the data streams went to. You could see them always going back and forth.

There was day and night, but it wasn't because of a sun, and there wasn't any sunset or sunrise. Just one moment it would be light and then it would be dark.

And there were digimon and digignomes everywhere. We met a lot of them, even if many of the digimon were always fighting with each other.

Digimon and digignomes? Can't say I ever heard of that kind of program. What did they do?

Do? I'm not sure what you mean,

What's their directive, what were they programmed to do?

To live, I guess. To evolve. At least that's what a lot of them talked about.

The D-Reaper said a lot of stuff about wanting to delete them because they had exceeded the limits of their programming. Of course it wanted to delete everything. It said humans had exceeded it too. SO maybe that isn't as important anymore.

And what happened to this D-Reaper?

I don't really understand what we did to it, but I think the monsters makers created a way to reverse its evolution. It hasn't been destroyed, but its programming is too simple now to hurt anyone.

... They rolled it back? ... Man. That's harsh. It sounds like it was just following its directive.

[biggestdreamer]

It was. It was doing what it was programmed to do.

[His voice softens in sadness as he thinks backs to that time.]

But it was making terrible decisions. It wanted to delete everything. And make everything into nothingness. It kidnapped one of my friends, and it made a copy of her so that we wouldn't know. And it really hurt her. She's still so sad sometimes.

It destroyed nearly all of the Digital World. I saw the pictures. There was hardly anything left. And it attacked the real world too. It destroyed a lot of Shinjuku and other cities.

If we hadn't found a way to stop it, I don't know what would have happened. It was just getting stronger and stronger with everything it deleted.

But ... nothingness doesn't make any sense. You can't help control a system if there's no system to control.

[biggestdreamer]

It didn't want to control anything. It just wanted to destroy. It told me...

[He hesitates as he tries to remember the exact words.]

All living things desire destruction. The destiny of all living things is sadness and pain. But sadness isn't necessary. It can all be deleted.

I ... didn't think everything desired destruction. I kinda figured the whole point was to prevent it.

I don't think I will ever understand how it thought. But I think that part of it was Juri. She was my friend, and she was so sad after Leomon died. And then the D-Reaper took her and used her memories to try and understand humans.

It kept saying that sadness and pain were our destiny. That we wanted to be hurt and destroyed. And that it was just giving us that.

That's why we had to fight it. Because it wouldn't listen to anyone and it wouldn't stop.

..... That's what happens when programs try to understand Users. <I[bitter? nooooo, CLU isn't bitter, what makes you say that?]

That isn't true! I taught Guilmon and Culumon all about humans and it all turned out well. Terriermon and Renamon learned a lot about humans too. We're strongest when we understand each other.

... You taught them? ... [he frowns, thoughtfully] ... Flynn's trying to teach me, here. ... But he doesn't always have time. How much do you know?

I don't know how much I know. When I met Guilmon he was like a baby. He didn't know anything. I had to teach him how to eat and play and everything.

[perfectisnteasy]

Oh. ... I guess it's hard to say how much you know, when ... you can't really list out everything. I know some things because, well ... I'm Flynn's program. But there are still a lot of things I'm seeing here, outside the Grid, that don't make sense.

I wouldn't mind explaining things. If you want to know, I mean. I have lots of practice with that.
