[Her hands rest to the edges of the journal, placed in her lap. Seated outside in the center of the city, she's found a lovely spot to rest near the fountain. Every so often a breeze sprays water onto the journal, but a delicate touch wipes the spots away. Her hair is pinned atop her head, helping with the warmer weather, though she still dresses in the slightly formal attire.]
I feel as though I am missing out on so much having come from a time that not many are familiar with.
Which is why I present this question: If you could travel back and teach someone something that was vital for their existence in the present day, what would you show them?
I would like to learn these things. I feel that it would assist me, so that I may not be the girl constantly with her mouth drawn agape when something is revealed to me.

Thing is, you can just stick something in the microwave and it'd be ready to eat soon enough, instead of freezing or whatever.

[and soon enough there is a brunette girl in a rather large, layered dress entering the kitchen. She should be easy to spot as she makes a straight line toward the microwave.]
Are you to help me with this?

You got it. [pause, and she extends a hand] My name's Sayaka.

Were you familiar with these things when you first arrived here or have you learned of them as well?

They're quite common where I'm from. This here works a little differently compared to the one I had at home, but the basic idea is shared among them all.

She heads toward the nearby fridge, looking at its contents, and eventually settles on a foil-covered package of stew] Probably doesn't belong to anyone. Let's try with this.

What is it?

Stew. Have you had any bad reactions to milk products before? [did people from that time have any concept of allergies?]

[a dismissive wave!] That isn't a problem we have to worry about, though. Here.
[moves back beside the microwave, and holds the package out at Katherine]

Is it fine the way it is? I do not need to do anything more to it?

[common sense? Seems pretty uncommon, now that she's learned how badly people treat the microwave. Thinking of how to put her thoughts across --]
Heat makes stuff expand. You can imagine what happens with something contained too tightly, such as an egg.

So! To avoid those problems, always take care with the timer and how high the heat is set.
