This mark and attached notice are here to alert you to great news. The news, of course, is that your journals are now the property of Mistress. She will let you look after them for the time being, as a sign of her good will. She's a very generous dictatress, you know.

Sweet pea? Had he just called her sweet pea? What even was a sweet pea? But he's asked her a question. She writes her name in the journal, Haha no o's and u's to make Mistress marks on.]

[Well, as there's no o's or u's to mess with on her line, he'll just mess with his own line first, before continuing.]

That's a very lovely name you have. Have you had it for long?

[And she carefully draws lines on his messed-up text, still tweaking.]

I had it, and then I almost forgot it, and remembered again, so a very long time. She instantly puts little x marks in her o's to keep them from being usable.]

Oh, dear. That does sound like a dilemma. Still, I'm sure that could be an interesting story! My name is Sandoval. I've had my name since I was born, really. Not a very interesting story, on that front.

[Chell likes that name. But she writes back quickly.]

Hmm. But it is an interesting enough story. Also, how do you pronounce Sandoval? Like Sand Oval or like Sando val or like San Doval? You're the only person with that name I ever met, and I think it's a lovely name. And I'm curious.

[She's not being an ass. She's really curious.]

It's Sandoval, dear. Sahn-do-vahl.

And I'm certain I've never met a Chell before! Though that may be because of world differences, you know - there are a lot of names I've never heard before!

[As he's talking, he continues scribbling on their text, almost as if he's doodling in class or something.]

Awww Sandoval, you're awesome. And about to have a very interesting question flung at you. Chell's still doodling too, x-ing/marking o's and u's so their text kinda looks like a kindergardener went wild. Or an abstract painting. You be the judge. But Chell does stop doodling long enough to write something.]

So. What other names haven't you heard of? And what's your world like?

[Well Sandoval's having fun doodling! Either way, Sandoval lazily scrawls on her o's and u's, as he has been, while he answers, also in that nonchalant sort of manner.]

Oh, lots of names, really - though I can't think of any in particular. Some are very interesting, though.

And as for my world - it's very much like this one, only magic artifacts and spells and the like are standard there. Some people have never seen some of the sights I've seen in this castle.

So, what's the strangest magical artifact you know of?

[Yaaaaay doodling. :D He's quick to draw another one right next to it.]

Oh, there's plenty. And they're all plenty strange... various books and wants and amulets, of practically anything you can imagine! Though I daresay the Forbidden ones are entertaining.

[His mark sprouts eyelashes, a big goofy pupil, and for added fun, a tiny little sun right in the center.]

What kinds are forbidden? Can I have an example?

[sandoval]

Oh, practically everything can be forbidden! Doors, books, rings and amulets... if you can imagine it, it can be forbidden, too!

[She considers...]

But who does the forbidding?

She doodles fireworks and swirls around the mark...]

That is a very good question! One that I'm not sure I can answer. The person who made the item, I suppose? Though a wizard could have come by and made it forbidden long after it was made...

... well, all I know is, if it's forbidden, Mistress likes to use it against the apprentices to catch them doing something naughty!

Who are these Apprentices?

Oh, usually boys who want to learn magic! We need someone to organize things around the castle, you know, and who better to do it than a sprightly young lad in exchange for magical knowledge? Of course, some of them are better than others... the last one was my favorite, so far.
