#002 - Cosmic Adventures

[Kara Zor-El is in Insolitus.

She's not quite lost -- no, she's not about to admit that yet -- but she's starting to think maybe she's become too reliant on her abilities. Here, in a maze that doesn't let her see through walls, it's a little tricky to stay "unlost", so to speak. But wasn't that adventure with Kal all those months ago supposed to teach her to not be too reliant on her abilities?

But hey, she's not lost yet.

She's just a little bit turned around in a maze of tunnels and ladders and all those things.

Hmm, what to do? She's sitting mid-way up a ladder with her journal to collect her thoughts.]

It all works the same for me. I don't really feel a difference.

Hmmm, How to explain this simply?

I can tell the difference between hard and soft by what happens when I touch them. But if you were to had me sit down on a steel table, a leather couch and a picnic table, I wouldn't be able to tell you which I thought was more comfortable.

Oh! Well, that makes sense. You probably don't have very enhanced "touch" sensors or something. I'd say you're missing out, but hey, you've never had to deal with physical pain, right?

[whistles_the_blues]

Not in the traditional sense, not the same way as you probably have. I mean I've been cut open and could still function from there. The closest I think I've felt to physical pain is when my core acts up, my systems all go on the fritz and I can't control myself properly.

Everyone can stop functioning in one way or another... but pain's a really specific thing. You're lucky.

Well that's one I don't hear very often.

But, while I can't feel physical pain. I know there are other types. I can feel those.

Emotional and that?

Yeah, it's part of my programming.

Hmm. Why did they bother to program that, I wonder?

I know why. I'd rather not talk about it too much, but the whole military weapon is only a part of why I was built. Kind of a means to an end.

[kryptonian]

That's okay. I shouldn't have pried, sorry.

[She just doesn't understand why a military weapon would need emotional vulnerabilities.]

It's not your fault. You didn't know.

It's part of why I ran away and got a new name.

I don't blame you.

I'd book it if the military tried to get me.

I can see why they might want to do that now.

Was that ever for a problem for you where your from?

[kryptonian]

Yeah. It comes and goes. When you're not human, people get really... curious.

[whistles_the_blues]

So you aren't human? You certainly look enough like one.

Convenient, huh? Looks convincing on the outside, at least.

Well you had me fooled, even with the whole super strength thing going.

It makes sense though.

Not many people encounter me and say "it makes sense."

Not many people lift can lift me up with one hand.
