[Dictated] In which Cimorene poses some questions

 In the weeks I have been here I have spoken to a great many people.  And some of the things they have mentioned to me sound very strange and curious.

And now I am wondering a great many things.  My own world is filled with such creatures as dragons and djinn and wizards and fire witches and giants and many others beside.  Are there truly so many worlds with none of that?

Also, I am wondering if anyone has any dried feverfew.  I would gather it myself, but I'm afraid it is the wrong time of year for it.

[Usually Spike would ignore anyone going on about dragons and the magical-whatever that he likes to turn a blind eye to, but sometimes the mood strikes him to question. He only knows what about half of those are, and he hasn't seen most of them. Turns out that living in a magic castle doesn't cover everything.]

Coming down with something? [Wild guess. Feverfew has to have something to do with fevers.]

That is true. I would hope the chances of fire are not as high here, but there is no point in giving up a sensible safeguard.

You never know when someone might snap and burn the place down.

It seems there are a great many worlds without such things, strange as it may seem. Even I do not recognize everything of which you spoke.

I find it difficult to even imagine such a world.

As did I, at first. But the necessity of explaining my race several times over has rather cured me of it.

There might be some in the clinic.

And it does rather seem like the fantastic is somewhat more visible in your world than in many others. Even in mine, many of those things are the stuff of legends, long sought-after but rarely found.

Linderwall was little like that, sometimes. It had been centuries since any dragons or giants had come east.

It was also very boring there.

I know people who have spoken with dragons, but I've never had the honor myself. Giants... I couldn't say if they were truly a myth or not.

Giants? Lack of evidence in favor, but they're present in some form in a great deal of folklore.

And everything you said are all fairytales where I'm from. Can't say I knew how to feel when I saw a pint-sized dragon in the library recently.

Nothing to that caliber, certainly. Unless you count cats and birds for that.

Do they talk? Frogs and squirrels and hedgehogs are more traditional. In my world you never know when you might be speaking to an enchanted prince. But I once met a frog who had picked up the language from them.

[He's heard of stories of talking frogs, but squirrels and hedgehogs?] No... I can't say that they do. Not any human's language, anyway.

[He'd probably be worried if he ever had a squirrel speaking Belkan to him one day.]
