You know, if all the information found in the book in that other world or whatever is true, it just makes the outsiders look more like scumbags. If I have a giant sentient castle munching on my soul, I'd rather know about it, you know? I don't think I'm really the only one, right? If you have more information, you can make a better decision. Maybe it'd have changed things...

Of course, I guess there hasn't been mass exodus, huh? Is it just that it would be too hard? There's some stuff set up out in the dead zone, but not enough to support everybody in the castle. People would actually have to work for their keep. Maybe it's easier to just pay tribute.

It sounds really ominous, doensn't it? That you're feeding something off your soul. If it's true. But I have to wonder then, what if souls regenerate or something? Maybe souls can heal like bodies do. I guess I don't know enough, but there might be some here who could talk about that. [A small amused sound.]

Though, the world outside is the most exciting thing here, too. We really are living in a world that hasn't been explored... and it's full of beautiful, magical mysteries out there. But even though there are ways we could get out, most people just stay in the castle all the time. Some adventurers.

Who wants to play a game?

[Anyway. Today Rin can be found out on the edge of the woods, in her usual haunt - under Alexstrasza's tree. She's leaned up back against the trunk with her journal over her knees, and her Arcanine sprawled out at her feet, enjoying the dappled sunshine.

I think it's more if you leave the castle and someone you care about shows up here, then you're going to miss out on them if you're living far away. Though I guess since the journals still work it might be possible to know when they show up and go back to take them away from the castle.

Also the fact that powers don't really work away from the castle, and it kind of sucks.

Yeah, that's true. It's not as if this place would stop pulling people in just because we left, and I guess for all the people who are just rabid to get home, it would be bad to leave.

Anyway, a word game.

That too! People that wander into the Dead Zone for a long time get stuck out there, right? Because the castle can't put them back where it got them when they're there.

I guess we don't really know-know that. I mean, I've been out in the dead zone but pulled back in for world changes in the past, and stuff. So the castle can maybe do pretty much what it wants.

The game is "a wizard has stolen your heart." So you pick one thing that's your heart, and one thing that's you - anything. And then the other person has to say a way they can be reunited.

Back where I come from, an artist depicted a soul, or rather, an "embodiment of spirit" as a rose covered in thorns. Beautiful to look at, but you shouldn't touch it, lest it hurts you.

I don't know what actual souls would look like, though, if they really exist...or if they could regenerate or do any of the things that you're wondering they can do.

Who are you? I don't know much about souls myself, but we do have some people here who've worked with them before.

Anyway, the game is a word game, if you want. We could always do twenty questions or chess otherwise. But I found it in a book and it sounds nice. It's about someone who's had their heart stolen by a wizard... and it's an open-ended kind of game. One person names one thing that's the heart, and the other thing that's the person. And the other player describes how the person reunites with their heart.

Oh, I'm...I'm Garry. I arrived a couple of days ago. Honestly, I don't know anyone who, erm, works with them either, but like I said, I'm not a big expert in general about them.

Their heart...? [Hmmm. He hadn't heard of this particular game before, but it couldn't hurt to give it a try!] That sounds interesting...I'd like to try it.

[ Cross is out with his Gardevoir, heading to the tree, as well. He spots Rin as he gets closer to the tree, and notices her Arcanine is with her. He can sense her watching the other pokemon, but he knows she will not make a move.

[Another Pkémon! Tad lifts his head and then rolls to his feet, bounding over without urgency to say hello. Rin sits up and looks at Cross, and smiles.]

Alar kar, Cross. What're you up to?

Cross leans against the trunk, looking up at the lush canopy above them. ]
