[Well, residents. It is time for that question that seems to pop up at least once a month or at least several times a year when a holiday comes around. You all know that question. The question from the poor souls who have no idea what it is all the fuss is about, and not sure they want to know. But being as they don't want to be caught unawares, they ask anyways.]

I have been hearing chatter about this and have read some of it in some quite old entries in the journal, but... What, precisely, is Valentine's Day?

The idea of a holiday centered on love does not seem so terrible.

Perhaps that would be true, were we not in Paradisa, where it can be turned against us.

I guess. But, it would not do anything to terrible, would it?

I would not put anything past this blighted world.

The faeries were not necessarily dangerous, at least.

They could have been. You cannot trust magic.

You do not like magic?

That would be an understatement. It has done nothing but plague my life, it is dangerous and we would all be better off without it.

I am sorry you have had such a horrible experience, though I admit it can make life more difficult than not at times.

It has it's uses, but it is far too easy to use it for bad before good.

Believe me, I know that all to well.

You come from a world where magic exists also?

Yes. I am gifted with Magic as well - the Mage Gift, but I use it for good. Dark magic... makes me sick.

[Why are all the people he ends up liking here mages? What cruel twist of fate is this. He makes a huffing sound, before raising an arm, tapping the lyrium markings on them]

This was dark magic, done to be by a man who wanted a pet and bodyguard out of a living creature.

I am sorry. I have faced more dark mages and their pets than I care for, my first when I was barely seventeen.

I...no not remember mine. I was born into slavery, but the ritual which gave me my markings stripped me of my memory. I knew no other life until I escaped.

Again, I am sorry. Just the thought... makes me sick. I cannot imagine what makes such people think that using their magic that is... is all right.

They have power and arrogance on their side, they believe it excuses them of everything.

That is very true, sadly.

And it seems to be the fate of the rest of Thedas, if the events I am told happen spark a war.

War is a horrible thing, but I am sure your world will fair well.

[wolfuncaged]

We have only began recovering from a Blight. Our world...it is not in a fit state to survive a war.

That does make it difficult. I try and take comfort in the fact that people are often hardier than we give ourselves credit for. Though, admittedly, people as individuals and people as a country, a world... a different thing.

Perhaps you do not quite understand what a Blight is...
