family reunion day 1;
[It's a beautiful morning, shaping up to be a hot and humid day, as so many summer days at the Blind Buffalo Resort are. The piles and piles of people arriving in their cars to check in at the modest front office make it a noisy morning too, full of chatter and greetings from those who have long been apart. There isn't enough room in the office for everyone, so there's spillover of the crowd to outside, and a noise crowd jammed inside the room.

But it does cause him to sigh and dig out a camping coffee pot and a coffee. Don't say he never did anything for you Mal he keeps you in this habit at least, as much as he hates it. Putting that on a nearby table he goes back to reading.]
Go make yourself a camp fire.

Anyway, how long do we have to stay here? Can't we just leave halfway through the week?
no subject
The entire week, and no we can not. Tony is paying for it and as we're not reimbursing him for it we're staying.
[Unless you'd like to pay him back for it...]

It's not like he's going to miss any money, Dad.
no subject
And yet it's only polite to do. If you want to be wasteful with his money then what are you going to do with your own?

[Helen warned with a playful wag of her finger to her daughter.
Wait...what is...is that coffee?]
Must you drink that swill? I pack a variety of teas.
no subject
It's not swill, it's delicious and I don't want to drink tea.

And he just sighs. Fine then, lets see if we can frighten her away from things a different way.]
And if you're not careful you'll turn out like your husband, some wine drinking bum wasting away his talents.
[...James that's now how that works. Coffee doesn't lead to Nikola-ness.]
no subject
I assume we'll be seeing Nikola this weekend?
[Helen took issues with some of Nikola's personality traits, but she was often surprised by how well she liked him.]
no subject
Of course, Mom. He is family now after all.
