Open Post: Hogsmeade

[it's Saturday, so it's time to kick back and enjoy the lovely sights of Hogsmeade. Have a drink at the Three Broomsticks, grab some sweets from Honeydukes, or dare to check out the famously haunted Shrieking Shack! Just kick back and enjoy yourselves today!

This is technically only open to third years and above, but if you can sneak out without teachers noticing more power to you!]

[Carolina watches him with what she's trying to present as a casual amusement, but jesus his gaze is a little on the intense side.]

What year are you? [Her voice naturally inflects upward at the end, like most people ask questions, but is a definite change from adult!Carolina.]

[Whoa, an actual question mark! Call the presses. York has to grin again at that, leaning back against the counter and seeming to forget about the candy shop.]

Seventh year. Yourself?

Sixth Year. [She tries to control that small bright burst of nervous excitement at his widening grin and the fact that he might be two whole years older than her. Sure, she's not as boy crazy as some of her counterparts, but then again, she's never met this guy before.] And Slytherin.

[She pauses for a moment before continuing,] Do you know how long you'll be here?

[He shrugs, seemingly completely relaxed despite his troublemaking earlier. Was she ever really like this as a teenager? Or is this just a happier version of what she might have been, if things were different?]

At least a week, I think? So, you know, maybe enough time to try out all the candy you have here.

[She tries to reign in that disappointment at his only staying a week and reminds herself that getting distracted from her studies would make her father pretty mad. It's better this guy will be gone in a week.]

Yeah, the candy. [Because that's clearly what she was focused on.] I should let you get back to it then.

[And she needs to get back to the library, really.]

Maybe you could tell me which kinds you like best.

[He eyeballs her Chocolate Frog. Delta would probably be offended if he ate one, but it's an excuse to spend more time with Carolina. Maybe he could just get one as a souvenir.]

[Oh that definitely gets her attention and she smiles brightly over at him for a second or two before trying to get that under control. Just be cool, Carolina. Just be cool. Following his gaze, she holds it up the little box.] I've been collecting the cards for a few years now. The chocolate isn't that bad either.

[She holds up the fizzing whizbee in her other hand.] These are really sweet and they make you float. There's also sugar quills, pumpkin fizz, Bertie Botts, liquorice wands... [Biting down on that enthusiasm again.] There's not much I don't like.

[York continues watching her, far more interested in the way she's acting than the contents of her speech. Excited about something that's not training, a mission, or proving that she's the best? He almost wished he had a video camera to prove this was really happening.]

I'll take two of each. And the Cockroach Clusters--are those pretty much what they sound like?

[~~Well he could always take a picture.~~ Carolina reaches to grab two more Fizzing Whizbees to shove his direction, before nearly skipping back over toward the chocolate frogs. She talks over her shoulder at him,] Yeah, they are. Don't think you want those.

[And she grabs two boxes of chocolate frogs and two sugar quills that are sitting in the box beside it.]

Right. I'll skip those.

[Dude, if someone would introduce him to wizard photographs, he would be taking them constantly--so maybe it's better that he doesn't know yet.]

Let's, see, licorice wands are here. What's Bertie Bott's?

[Carolina leads him over to the next rack and grabs a couple liquorice wands to shove in his direction.] Jelly beans, but every flavor.

[He grabs them and shoves them into his basket, which is starting to look a little full. Luckily, he seemed to have a fair number of coins in his personal chest in Gryffindor Tower, not that he really knew the relative value of them.]

Every flavor? So maybe I should get a couple extra and start taking my chances, huh?

[He takes a couple of other candies at random that look interesting and proceeds to checkout so he can start enjoying them.]

Every flavor. [Nodding again, Carolina carries her own chocolate frog and the Fizzing Whizbee that York had been messing with toward the register. Without any problems, she pays for her own and tucks them securely away in her bag.]

[It takes him a little longer to figure out which one is a Knut and which one is a Sickle, but York eventually pays for his and gets a cute little bag to put them all in.]

D'you have other shopping to do in town? Or--well, what else is there to do out here anyway?

[She had figured he'd say goodbye and then take off to do whatever seventh years did with their time, so she's a little surprised by the question.] I was taking a study break to get candy--

[Which she could lengthen, considering he seemed to be asking. If she's reading this right. She could just be imagining that a really hunky seventh year wanted to hang out with her.]

Are you? Doing more shopping in the area?

[Of course she was studying. York's not even surprised. But unlike older Carolina, she seems to be willing to take a break now and then.]

Well, I have some extra cash, and I do want to see the place. I figure someone like you would know all the best spots in town.

[Yeah no he's totally hitting on her.]

[Oh she can't hide the huge grin at that, even though she tries to swallow it down to be cool. Okay so he does want to hang out with her. That's--

Good thing she asked for romantic advice already.]

There's the Three Broomsticks, if you want to head there. Or I could show you the other places here.

[York sincerely hopes that adult Carolina won't kill him for all this flirting.]

How about we check out the other places and then end up there?

[Oh she definitely will. Carolina continues to try and bite back the smile pressing fiercely around her mouth.]

Yeah, I-- Okay. Yeah. [Yeah, no she's not able to keep her smile down. She heads out the door with her bag, making sure he's behind her. On the way out the doors, there's a stack of newspapers, one of which she picks up to look at the front page, which features a moving photo.]

[Now that draws his attention, and York hurries up a little bit to be walking right next to her. He tries not to ask any stupid questions, like "is that magic?" so it's a few moments before he formulates a good one.]

So. Uh. Think there's a place around where we might be able to get a picture like that? You know, one of me and one of you?

Of me? [Carolina frowns a little but isn't mad, more confused, but she thinks there's likely a place in town they can get a picture.] You don't even know my name.

[Oh, right. York blinks and wonders if she's going by Carolina or Jillian now.]

But if I have a picture, then I can write your name on it so I don't forget who that awesome Slytherin girl is.

I'm York.

[Carolina's grin brightens at that. Well, she is kind of awesome. She nods at him. ] Jillian.

There should be a place down the street.

Well, hey, it's nice to meet you, Jillian.

[He'll walk next to her down the street, trying not to swagger.]

So you like it here at school? It seems pretty nice, even if it is a lot bigger than mine.

[She's starting to really struggle with keeping her grin down as he walks beside her. Nodding, she answers,] I really like it. I'm going to be the best wizard there's ever been and this is the right place to start.
