[04] Dictated

So I guess it's high time I came out of the hole I've been living in for the past month or so. S'up, Para. Bet you thought I wasn't around anymore, huh? Sorry to disappoint. But can we all at least agree one one thing? The month of February is by far the worst month to ever have the audacity to become a month. A shitty month in a shitty castle, I shouldn't actually be surprised. Glad it's fuckin' over, though. As if March is any better, though. As if any month is actually good in this shithole.
Am I bitter? You bet your ass I am.
Anyway, doesn't matter. Bitching ain't gonna change a god damn thing, so why bother? That's probably what this castle wants anyway. Me to bitch about my abysmal existence just to feed it's weird angst fetish. I would probably be better off just going back into my self-made exile just so I wouldn't be playing into the castle's hand.
But I'm not going to. You're stuck with me. And so for any new arrivals that have come since I went AWOL, yo. My name's Dirk motherfuckin' Strider.
[Jane]
So he's gone.
I guess that whole ordeal was pretty fuckin' pointless, wasn't it?
Well I mean sure we solved our petty problems and became better people for it, but for what?
From where I'm standing, it seems like the whole thing was for nothing now that he's not here anymore.
Maybe you should just have first fuckin' dibs on the next Jake that decides to show his ass up.
I mean you already gave me dibs on the last one, and we see how god damn well that went.
Start a pattern up in here.
I get one, you get the next and so forth and so on.
Because obviously this place can't keep a goddamn English for more than a few weeks, if previous experience is anything to go on.

[Unusually for York, this entry is written.]
Things I've Learned in Four Years
1. Season changes typically occur over the space of a day, or at most one week.
2. Becoming a different age has surpassed becoming a cat as the most common loss.
3. We're probably due for another room rearrangement within six months. This timeframe also holds for a world change in which most non-humans get turned human.
4. People are often surprised at the existence of the Dead Zone, the Danger Room, the hot springs, the archery range, and other locations listed on the maps you can find in the library.
5. Earth residents compared to non-Earth residents is about 7:1 at any given time.
6. There's still no food delivery service to the castle from town. Someone should fix this.

[These filters done, Brock can be found around town, around the castle grounds, and in the castle itself. He has a large, white dog on a leash and seems to be trying to get it to track something with varying levels of success.
By which I mean the dog keeps getting distracted by interesting smells that are not at all what Brock cares about. His frustration is pretty apparent by this point; he is chainsmoking and scowling at everything. Life is hard.]

[ Perhaps in a sudden melancholy brought on by the disappearance of so many in recent weeks, and of the aging shift that took place, Vanyel has had a particular question on his mind...]
I know this might seem to be coming out of nowhere and perhaps a bit dark, but, please indulge me if you will.
I have heard the stories and the theories and assertions that when we are sent home, if we are sent home, we are returned to the time and place at which we were originally taken, as if our worlds had stopped in our absence. How many of you believe this is true? Can something truly be so powerful? And do you fear what has happened in your absence, if it is not?

[ So yes being a spider for a week has been fun....if you ignore the whole almost being captured by Muraki thing and didn't mind being shot with a needle gun.
Incidentally OW! 5...that really stung!
So what has he missed? More people arriving, people bitching about being old...nothing exciting really.
Is it time to test the waters again...why not?
Lets see the damage this past week has done to peoples personalities.]
Hello you cheery people...I'd love a moment of your time if you don't mind? I have an interesting scientific experiment I'd like to try.

I was too busy being a turtle when the actual date passed to notice that I've been here for more than 6 months already... and while we're between spurts of weirdness, I wanted to say...
[Jennifer pauses, and there's some pen taps on the page before she goes on.]
Thanks, mostly. To everyone who's made friends with me here, and helped me when I needed it, and made me feel welcomed here, even when I was a total stranger to all of you. It means a lot, and I feel like I don't express my gratitude enough.

[this week's broadcast starts out with the same old song, but with a new twist: just a little bit techno! Harry lets his favorite song play out to the end, this week]
That's how it goes, folks, that's how it goes. You know it, I know it, and anyone out there who doesn't know it is gonna figure it out sooner or later. That's right, it's Monday at 10 PM, and this is your friend Hard Harry, givin' it to you straight on the regular schedule for old times' sake.
Speakin' of old times ... no, you know what, that was too fuckin' easy. Let's just not even bother. Instead, let's roll out the red carpet for Jack, Katherine, Gilroi, Emma ... annnd in case you missed the memo, the Doctor is back. Hide your celery, boys 'n' girls, no stalk is safe. Heh heh heh...
As for the latest and greatest news around Castle Wonderfuck, we've got some really weird surveys goin' around this week. If you're looking for something a little saner to wrap your brain around, someone's lookin' to start a proper welcoming committee, and my friend Hermione's collecting any good memories you might have've this place.
[there's the tell-tale sound of the pop tab on a soda can, and a pause before he continues] On the whole, it seems like you people are really on the ball right now with keepin' on top of things and knowin' what's goin' down. Almost makes me feel like you don't even need me, like I could go into early retirement, and stop stickin' my stupid nose in what everyone else here does. Just sit here in my spinny chair with a hand down my pants like the dude in Longview, giving absolutely zero fucks... man ....
[he sighs, almost wistfully]
.... Nope, you know, on second thought, I'd rather be six feet under. Sorry folks, you're stuck with my nosy ass, either 'till someone gets sick of my loud mouth and shuts me up for good, or the castle's had enough of my shit and kicks me back home, where I've got a long, illustrious career in juvenile detention waitin' for me. Fun fact: fuckin' with the FCC was the most fun I think I ever had, back home.
Just shows to go you, some people just can't stand a kid who speaks his mind. [he burps unceremoniously into the journal, then takes another sip of his soda] ... Lucky for you, I don't have much ammo in me, tonight, so you just get the music. 'Less, of course, any of you have anythin' you feel like phonin' in about. Lines're open!
[and with that, he will just go ahead and let the music play! enjoy it, folks]

Hamlet thought too much.
[ that's the way she chooses to open this. Musing aloud. ]
He thought and he talked and he talked, and he has the most beautiful - soliloquies, I read they are called. He talks about all the things he thinks about but he doesn't do anything and in the end nobody of them does anything but Laertes. It's a sad story but I don't think it has to be. If Hamlet did something instead of all the thinking and the soliloquies maybe it would have had a better end.
[ the things six years old think about these days. ]
He could change it from a tragedy to just...a story. You don't have to make it a tragedy. It can be a sad story at the beginning and some things aren't fair but it doesn't have to be this way.
[ a beat. ]
I'm sorry. I don't really know how to say it, but when something is bad, like brothers or daddies or aunts and principals and evil kings like Claudius, then they're bad but it doesn't have to end badly too. At least that's what I think. I heard this story about a girl who had a wonderful life but then it all changed and became terrible but she changed her story and made it better. I think I like hers more.
