[It's a beautiful morning, shaping up to be a hot and humid day, as so many summer days at the Blind Buffalo Resort are. The piles and piles of people arriving in their cars to check in at the modest front office make it a noisy morning too, full of chatter and greetings from those who have long been apart. There isn't enough room in the office for everyone, so there's spillover of the crowd to outside, and a noise crowd jammed inside the room.

Alright, you see my hands?

[ He holds them right at water level so they're have in half out, and waves them back in front of himself, together then apart. ]

You'll want to do that, maybe a little lower in the water than I am, but that's the first step.

[She nods, moving her hands in an imitation of his]

Okay. Like this?

[staggeringego]

Just like that! And while you're doing that kick your legs back and forth in the water, gently of course. Just enough force to keep you afloat.

[fly_little_bird]

Okay. [She hesitates, looking down at the water.] do you want me to try that now?

[staggeringego]

[ He takes a step forward lifting his hands out of the water so she can see them. ]

If something goes wrong I'll pull you right out.

[fly_little_bird]

[She hesitates a moment before nodding. She's nervous, arrite?!]

O-okay.

[Taking a deep breath she pushes off from the bottom, lifting her legs up behind her and trying to move just like he told her. She does okay for a second but finding a good rhythm to keep afloat is hard and she starts to dip in the water a little.]

[staggeringego]

[ James jolts forward and picks her up under her arms, lifting her up just a little in the water to make sure her head is above the water still. ]

Good start! That's progress already.

[fly_little_bird]

[Oh, hey, that makes it easier! She grins, feeling more confident already as she keeps practicing]

[ He'll keep her up as long as he needs to, making sure she's seems to be getting her baring here first... ]

Ready for another try?

[fly_little_bird]

[She nods carefully, trying to keep her face above the water]

Okay.

[staggeringego]

All right. Here we go...

[ Letting go of her, but still hovering close just in case. ]

[fly_little_bird]

[She dips for a second when he lets go but she pulls herself back up and starts slowly swimming along]

[ Grinning. He's never actually taught anyone to swim before, but he's glad to know that he can apparently do it if he wants to. ]

Doing well so far!

[ He takes a step to the side and waves her forward. ]
