Maybe it's because I've never had a significant other, but I honestly do not see the point in Valentine's Day. And people have told me in the future it is far more commercialized. If you truly care about someone, shouldn't you show this at every opportunity and not just one day a year?

I understand everyone likes to feel appreciated, but perhaps I'm too logical in this. I think I would rather something personal. But then I've also never been on a date. I have yet to even consider the psychological aspect of an intimate relationship like that.

Perhaps I shall look into that as well. [Because she needs a break between reading biochem technology books and learning computer code.]

I suppose that is true, but then most people who can afford it can probably also afford contraceptives.

If that's your choice. Babies are [ Or rather should, and she's all too aware of that ] born through love. Theres a lot of love going around then.

If that were the case, then I'm sure they were planning to have a child in the first place. Or one would hope.

Unless they were being irresponsible.

In which case, that isn't really giving the holiday a good name.

Something unexpected isn't always irresponsible, unless it is.

Anyway, it's not about babies but love. Celebrating it with the person you love, doing something spontaneous and special. [ If you could anyway. This year, both home and here she can't ]

But why on this one day? It just seems mass produced.

It doesn't stop you doing it every day it just gives you an excuse. Yes it's commercialised but everything is.

So it's more about why you're doing than specifically what -- catered to a generic or stereotyped female. Interesting.

It's love. That's all you need to know. Oh the day's probably stupid but people don't seem to care. And just being with someone is not the worst way to spend it.

I can't say I know anything about that. But I do see your point, and it gives the day a bit more validity.

Although for the time being, it's still pointless to me.

The chances of me even seeing him again are slim. If I ever return home, I'm going to be trapped in a boat with the man that killed my parents for an undetermined amount of time. [Fleeing the law because they ran out of their hearing. And set a hotel on fire.]

And there's no way to get away from him?

No. The alternative is my family being torn a part, my younger siblings becoming wards of the state, and I have no idea of my fate. It's better if I go with him. We'll at least be together.

And there's absolutely no one else to help you?

No. Those who have have either left or were killed.
