It never ceases to amaze me with what people get to write, and what gets made into books. Some things just seem downright treasonous, but they still get bound, and bought, and read by lots of people.

I'm a little jealous to be frank. At home it could be pretty tough to get hold of books and things. Some of my friends couldn't even read so having books would have been moot.

[Rin is in the library today, which is not very surprising: the library is a good place to try and find her. Tad the Arcanine is hanging around lolling under tables and in front of chairs as she reads. Just now, she seems to be slipping a book into her carryall: the curious might get enough of a glimpse to see that she's making off with The Anarchist's Cookbook.

In my time, the printing press is very new, so books no longer have to be written out by hand... and on top of that, the Church no longer considers them the work of sin. I think I take books at home for granted, let alone the library here.

Heretical books get burned, though.

No one at home would ever get away with distributing the kind of stuff this library has in some books. When the future gets here I wonder if it just doesn't matter what anyone does or says anymore?

I can't say I read a lot at home. It's been nice, having the library here and everything in it at my fingertips.

You should definitely take advantage of it while you've got the chance, then. I've never seen a library as big as this one in my whole life.

You must be from a very different time! I haven't heard many people call books treasonous before.

[Oh my! She recognizes Jade's voice, vaguely at least, but that would be kind of weird to whip out right away, so she doesn't.]

I'm from seventeen eighty-two. Books actually aren't all that common anyway... actually I bet things would seem pretty, um, confined for distributing information, for lots of people from different times.

[Jade remembers her too! Very vaguely. Sadly bad memories are tied with her first run in with Rin, but...]

Wow, yeah! Probably! I mean where I'm from we have computers and the internet and stuff. I use to read a lot of books too, though. Mostly for medical stuff when I was sick or for making sure certain plants weren't poisonous.

Not that I'd disagree with it, but I still wonder how they get away with it.

Beats me. A couple friends in high places who get the books and scrolls printed. Or they're just good at not getting caught.

[The voice sounded familiar, and not too far off from where he was sitting at a large table. Titles ranging from the construction of castles to fairy tales in piles at his side. He turns to the sound, trying to place the voice but not quite making it. He addresses her comment, though a bit softly since they were in a library.]

...There are lots of reasons why it might seem so, but here I think we can just attribute the abundancy of books to the castle's wish to be accommodating.

Do you think so? Some of the things that get written about sure strike me as treasonous, or not things that would generally be available to be shared with just anybody... and they look like they're done up pretty official too.

Those kind of things vary over time and by culture. Since there's a mix of us, I imagine that there's a mix of books, too. ...What kinds of things are you concerned about?

And rather underestimated at least by some, I think. If you have people writing whatever they want and getting books made and books going around everywhere... that's just a lot of information moving.

Quite true. There were for8idden topics 8ack on my home planet to keep such information from passing hands, though that never did quite stop word from getting those who sought it.
It sounds as though it was similar for your world?
